If anyone cares about the size of the new ork trukk here is a small comparison pics that I've taken. I really had no idea of how big the trukk was until I got my hands on it myself.

Here is the new trukk next to the old style trukk.

I think its funny to note that the actual trukk bed is only about 1/2" longer than the old style. 12 orks, yeah right. Pretty much the only thing that makes the new trukk longer is the engine. Its exactly the same width as shown here.

The biggest difference is height.

Note: This is just the basic frame of the new trukk. I didn't put on the roll cage or the extra armor bits which will make the new trukk even taller.

Lastly here is just a sample pic of different transports (I know the bassy isn't a transport but it used the same chassis as a chimera. Unfortuantly I don't have access to my rhinos at the moment and I don't even own any eldar or DE stuff.

Clearly the new trukk is inline with the size of transports now a days. But fortunatly the old trukks really arn't that smaller and unusable (because I already have 4).

Anyway, I just put this together for fun, hopefully it will be useful to you in some way.

Nice comparison shots.

How many models would you say fit in the new trukk?

You can fit 4 1" round bases in the trukk bed without them overlapping. If you just pile the orks onto it and use arms and weapons to lock them into place you can fit 6-7 before they start falling off. You can't really balance any individual ork models on the driver, engine or gunner either.

Thanks for the comparison. Interesting that the 'bed' (i.e. passenger compartment) doesn't seem to be especially bigger...

Not bigger eh? We will see what my friend mr. plasticard has to say about that! And also I have determined a frowny face with angry eyebrows are manditory for all of my new ork trukks.

The new trukks rock for many reasons, but perhaps the greatest is the Rat Fink imagery that they're pretty obviously drawing on. They definitely have that Ed Roth quiality, what with the exposed engine, maniacal driver with realistic controls, pickenstauber helmet, etc. I'd like to see some converted buggies that have the big driver with tongue hanging out thing going on. I haven't seen any fuzzy dice conversions yet, though. This is disappointing.

Amusingly enough, hot rodders here in the US even refer to their clique as "kustom kulture". Tres orky.

Last note- I just got some huge steer horns for my battered pickup IRL. I'm barely resisting the urge to bolt a ram on it and spraypaint "Waaaaaagh" down the side. Maybe for Burningman...

At least they're not kiddies. Then they'd be kkk.

The land of cotton.

Thanks! You could tell by pics on the GW site the truck was significantly taller, but the weedy width is a little surprising.

At least the old Trukks won't look too out of place with the new ones, especially if you beef them up a little height wise with plasticard. Hell I don't think any two vehicles in an Ork army should look too much alike anyway... just don't seem Proppa and Orky.

From those of us that are still waiting for our new plastics to ship, thanks for the comparison shot, actually very helpful, especially when planning out the new transport case needs.

Also: your cut barrel fenders are pure orky deliciousness, nicely done.

As for Savnock noting the Ed Roth theme, I know my trukks will all be sporting 4 foot tall skull and 8ball shifters. A couple cuts on the shoota boy left arm and bam, instant ape-hanger/tall shifter arms!

If you use the old "pile on" ruling, as many as you dare!

I can't even remember if this is an official ruling from the depths of time or if we made it up in the late 80s, but for the longest time we've allowed people to pile on as many orks as they want on a transport, but if any of them fall off during movement, the model takes a wound (and is allowed to climb back on if he survives). Many a game has been won, but even more games have been lost by an avalanche of Orks falling off the back of a Trukk during movement phases.

EDIT: General question as I don't have my Trukk yet - how many bits would I have left over after assembling a standard Trukk out of the box?

Wargames are neat.

Two planks, two pieces of armor plates, two hand rails if you don't use them to keep a lower profile, 4 gliph plates, possilbly part of the front ram as it comes in 3 pieces and you don't actually need to use all three. You can also gain an engine radiator plate as it hides pretty good and the skull gliph that goes ontop of it.

One has to realize that GW vehicles are more scaled to the height of infantry models than their grossly exagerated width. Going by height, one inch works out to about 6 scale feet, making the roughly 2" square truck beds about 12 foot square, plenty of room for passengers. If the new trucks were any bigger they'd be too big to only hold a dozen boyz.

Think they could fit if you removed the bases? Legs and
torso, like?

Without the bases you could probably fit at least six. Model them standing straight rather than hunched with legs spread wide and you might get eight or nine. The last few would require them to be able to conform to each other's shape like real flesh and blood creatures would be able to. For instance, last year 16 girls from Scotland crammed themselves into a red phone booth that's maybe 3 foot on a side. Surely the boyz can do as much with more than 10x the space.
