I am completely new to warmachine, but a lot of people tell me to keep trying it. Well a local hobby shop had a 70% off sale. So I bought all the stuff I had. I don't know what they can fight together list and I was hoping to play some tournaments so, given that, I was wondering how much a typical game is pointwise.
Here are the items I have. Would any of these be able to make an feasible army. I don't mind buying a few units here or there.
Devil Dogs Mercenary Set.
Croe's Cuthroats set
BoomHowler and Co. Mercenary Set.
Cygnar Sword Knights Box set
Cygnar Long Gunners Box set
(2) Cygnar Long Gunners troops
(3) Risen Mercenary Troops
(2) Cygnar Sword Knights
(1) Marauder Heavy Khador Jack
Cygnar Stormblade leader and stat card
2 sets of (2) Cygnar Trencher Troops
(2) Khador Battle Mechanic Assistants.
Thank you guys ahead of time and I appreciate all your help. [spoiler]

You need a warcaster, and they have to match the
faction of the warjacks and troops.
Factions are: Cygnar, Khador, Mercenary.
So let me break this down by faction:
Mercenaries- To use mercs in a faction army, the card
should say which factions the mercs can be used with
Devil Dogs Mercenary Set- I'm told they're not really
worth using in most armies.
Croe's Cuthroats set- iirc, they can be used with Cryx,
Protectorate and Khador. They're useful for various
things, but they lost value against heavy jack armies or
against undead
BoomHowler and Co. Mercenary Set.- Not sure how these
play, but needless to say I don't see much of them.
(3) Risen Mercenary Troops- You need Alexia Ciannor to
use Risen. And any army that CAN use Alexia, should
probably use her, especially against Warmachine (high
infantry count). So if you plan on playing as Cygnar or
Khador, then plan on buying the Alexia boxed set.
Cygnar- You have the most stuff for Cygnar. So you
have to figure out what Cygnar warcaster to use. A lot
of that comes down to style of play. Recommendations:
Haley- Wicked spell, feat and abilities. Nice support for
both ranged and melee troops. You'll probably need at
least one Lancer light warjack so that you can cast spells
through it. Probably your best bet for a starting Cygnar
caster.
Stryker- An overall decent character, but lacking in
a strength in any one direction. He's a good starter and
his abilities seem more defensive than anything else.
Siege- Need more gun. Seriously, you'll need to buy
more ranged units and warjacks to make him work, but
he can do wicked things to guns.
Nemo- Nemo is a spellcaster, so you'll want at least 1-2
Lancers. Also, he has a lot of good interactions with
warjacks. If you pick him, probably start with some
random ideas about warjacks you'd want to use.
Darius- Heavy warjacks mostly. People do well with him,
but he plays differently than many other warcaster
Caine- Tricky. Not recommended as a starter at all
Cygnar Sword Knights Box set
These are good melee units for trashing warjacks. Also,
they get bonus die when they're in range of a friendly
warjack, so you want to consider at least one warjack
with them, preferably one with reach.
(2) Cygnar Sword Knights
These can be added to your Sword knights boxed set.
Cygnar Long Gunners Box set
Decent troops. Good shooters. Haley can increase their
range (I think)
(2) Cygnar Long Gunners troops
Thes can also be added to the Long Gunners unit
Cygnar Stormblade leader and stat card
Which leader is it? IF it says Unit Attachment, then you
need a regular unit of Stormblades to include it at all.
2 sets of (2) Cygnar Trencher Troops
These also need the box set to be used.
Khador
(1) Marauder Heavy Khador Jack
(2) Khador Battle Mechanic Assistants.

First off, let me thank you for an amazingly informative post. Nothing could have been better than that.
I still have a few questions however.
"Cygnar Stormblade leader and stat card
Which leader is it? IF it says Unit Attachment, then you
need a regular unit of Stormblades to include it at all. "
Yea, they are only the leader so I will need the box. Same goes for the trenchers. Are either of these units worth purshasing. I guess it depends on the general I pick.
Just as a Side note, Why would Cygnar ally with Alexia, She seems more along the veins of Cryx doesn't she? I am thinking I will get her then since she is so highly recomended. Haley, and then a jack of some sort. These will be added to the swordsman boxset +2 and the gunners boxset +2.
Where does that leave me pointwise? Will that even break 500?

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

If it doesn't break 500 it might if you can trade the Khador jack for a Cygnar one.
And don't forget you can ebay the stuff you don't want. Can't go wrong with 70% off.

Points are on the back of the cards. I have no clue why
Cygnar would be allowed to use Alexia. I've been meaning
to pick up the Witchfire trilogy and RPG stuff for months
now. I think Cryx is after her for that sword, so that could
explain some of it.

Trenchers are most certainly worth having. The moving wall o' smoke can make it easy to protect a lot of your units from enemy fire. Until they figure out how to get around it, of course.

Well given the new information, I didn't previously know, Mainly that I needed more than a few boxes to get an army going, I went back and bought the rest of what they had at 70% off.
This is what was there.
(3) Risen Mercenary
(1) Malgrun Bodridge Dwarven Pistoleer of Rhuul
(2) Grundback Gunners Mercenary Rhulic Light Warjack
(1) Hyls Lyoros Elven Fighter of Ios
(1) Grindak Bloodbreath Trollkin Adventurer
(1) Magus Damien Sperling Cygnarian Warcaster
(1) Risen Thrall Warrior
(1) Bridge Troll
(2) Night Wretches Cryx Bonejacks
Maybe this might help because it was all over the map before. This should give a better selection.

Man, I wish I had your disposable income to buy minis blindly without knowing what they do.
Unfortunately, you've got a lot of Iron Kingdoms minis. They're made for the RPG, and don't have rules in Warmachine. Not to say they're not good for the occasional proxy, but they're not "officially official" Warmachine minis.
The Risen stuff will be good, both the mercenary blister and thrall blister. They'll go with Alexia once you get her.
The only other Warmachine things I see are the Grundback Gunners and the Nightwretches. Neither of these can be used with the stuff you bought previously.
I might be willing to take that Grindak Bloodbreath off your hands, though.

About those minis:
Make sure they're specifically for Warmachine and not
for Iron Kingdoms RPG.
Malgrun
Hyls
Grindak
Magus
Bridge Troll
are all IKRPG figs, I think.

As it turns out, those are iron kingdom figures. But they might be cool for conversions. They looked really cool. Especially Malgrun.

Actually, if you buy the Cygnar starter kit, you'll be off to the races. It comes with a goodly assortment of Warjacks, and Commander Stryker, who is a well rounded warcaster, as well as the actual quick-start rules.

Magus Damien Sperling Cygnarian Warcaster looks incredibly similar striker. Assuming I'd preferentially have to buy the cygnar deck, I would be getting his card anyways. I just have to turn his spear into a sword. Which is quite doable. Looking at the starter box, that would cover the caster. Given that, I would just be getting jacks. It may be more cost effective to buy them individually.
Having said that, a friend of mine is trying to get rid of a centurion, thunderhead, and a hunter for a descent price. Are these jacks people regret?
I also think I can convert Malgrun and The bridge troll to be joiune and co. or whatever that dwarf and half orc artillery is called.

The Thunderhead is very good, though it costs a lot of points. A 500pt army will have to focus on using the TH right; probably not something you'd use every
game, but certainly effective.
The Centurion is *outstanding*. The most consistent Cygnar player in my group swears it's the best heavy jack in the game. IME it's extremely durable and quite killy, and its special ability which prevents enemy models from charging or slamming it from the front is extremely useful.
The Hunter is also quite good. It's an inexpensive sniper jack, particularly good at shooting other jacks. It has a special rule that allows it to operate twice as far from its controlling warcaster as a normal jack. It's a bit on the fragile side, but I've seen it do very good things.
IMO those are all good choices if you’re playing Cygnar. If you’re able to trade any of your unusable stuff, in particular (those Nightwretches, for example, are a favorite choice of many Cryx players).

Looks like you should start up Cygnar. I would suggest trading for more on these forums or Barter town to get more of what you need.
