Let me know what you all think. I know it's a bit lacking in the typical Lascannon anti-tank gunline. It's FOC legal so that I can field it in normal games as well as Apocalypse games (hense the addition of the Baneblade at the end of the list - note that it is not included in the total).

Just a quick note:

Assorted Small Arms is used to describe a combination of Lasguns, Shotguns, and Laspistols and Close Combat Weapons. The only thing you need to really remember about it is that they all are equal in their ineffectiveness at killing anything.

Not true. I saw 60 guardsman put a wound on a GK hero once.

Oh, killing. Right.

Here's my standard advice:

Don't put lascannons on LR tanks.

Don't spend points on heavy stubbers unless you can't squeeze more infantry in.

Extra armor is bad. Smoke launchers too.

I don't like PG myself, but YMMV.

Rest of it...well it's a IG gunline army.

Thanks for the input, Stelek.

I once had a rapid-firing Lasgun put down a Tomb Spyder. The chances of that happening are pretty low though.

In response to your points:

1. Hull Lascannons are often frowned upon, and for good reason. I can't bring myself to remove them however - call it an unwillingness to have only infantry-based anti-tank.

2. I figured the Stubbers would complement the Inferno Cannon and Heavy Bolters of the Hellhounds quite nicely - I'll see if I can eke out another squad of some sort from the 36 points. Maybe a Deep Striking remnant squad with a Plasma Gun would be nice.

3. Extra Armor is essential for those Hellhounds to be effective, IMO. Moving out of an enemy firing lane is immensely helpful, especially if it means being able to Tank Shock an enemy squad out of assault range of soft friendly infantry. Smoke complements this by reducing the enemy's chances of inflicting a killing blow to a maximum of 17% per glancing/penetrating hit.

4. I used to be all about Meltaguns. I still have a few in the list, but after throwing down two Triple-Plas Hardened Veteran Squads, I cannot say no to that kind of devastation. Especially when combined with the destructive abilities of a Poor Man's Vortex Grenade (AKA Demo Charge).

I appreciate the input. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do regarding points freed up by eliminating the 3 Heavy Stubbers, 6 Smoke Launchers, and 3 Extra Armors (69 points)?

Nice fun apocalypse army. At 2500 points, the list has less long range infantry based firepower than I'd like, but all of those lascannons are buried nice and deep in the line squads.

grenadiers without chimeras would not be something I wanted. But if this army was made using the forgeworld deathkorps models and these were the skull faced grenadiers, then I would love them forever.

If that was the case then I'd say add a gorgon for the infantry platoon, and some centaurs with extra armor for the grenadiers! Just kidding (or am I?)

From a fluff perspective, its a very death korps list (minus the death riders) and from a competitive perspective, you've taken good units in good configurations. In a game as large as 2500 I'd be really interested to hear if guard can really pull off having all three elements in a single list. The three elements being gunline/drop troops/armored-mechanized.

I know they wouldn't be able to run a full gunline, unless the depth of the table was increased, you just aren't going to get 300 models in your deployment zone without totally splitting up your firebase and weakening your firepower at any particular point of a table.

Here's to hoping you can get some 2500 point games lined up.

Please check out my current project blog

Feel free to PM me to talk about your list ideas....

I should be able to have my entire army back together during my Spring Break - I'll see about lining up a game then.

I agree with you that combination armies seem to be less common than those armies out there that rely mostly on Drop Troops or Mechanized units. I've had pretty good success with this list - taking elements of all usually means one part of my army folds against a particular opponent, while one other rampages, and the third kind of acts the middleman.

You're sharp - I was inspired by Death Korps in making this army, sans Rough Riders, of course. I'll keep the Chimeras in mind as I expand to 3500 (that total includes the Baneblade).
