I'm going to Adepticon and I'm thinking of bringing along a team component. I'm not a combat patrol fan and my fantasy fu is weak, so I don't have much else to do on that saturday. Besides, everyone says the Adepticon team game is pure sweetness, figure I got to give it a try.
The rules make you bring one HQ and one troop choice, and you can get up to 1 hq, 3 troop choices, 1 elite, 1 fast attack and 1 heavy support choice.
I started off with the presumption that Adepticon is all about scoring models, so I wanted as many scoring units as I could have. 7.
HQ:
Gotta be a DP. The only one I've got well modeled is my lash prince, who also happens to be a pretty competitive guy. So HQ slot is:
Daemon Prince w/MoS, LoS, Wings
Elite:
I think the win for Chaos elite comes from small terminator squads, in terms of cheap scoring units. Deep Strike and cheap weapon options strike me as icing on the cake. I have both Terminators and Possessed modeled, but Possessed in my mind are more for bigger games, when they can be part of the Rhino Rush.
I went with the following for my Elites:
3 Terminators, 1 has Heavy Flamer, 1 has combi-melta, 1 has combi-plasma
Fast Attack:
I've just finished up some Raptors with the possessed wings. I think Raptors are the best cheap fast attack choice. So my Fast Attack is:
5 Raptors, 1 has a melta gun and 1 has a flamer. I also put a Mark of Chaos Glory in the unit, both because that guy is modeled and because it'll let the Oblits/Terminators home in on them, if they are deep striking.
Troops:
I think durability trumps other considerations for the Troop choices. I want these guys scoring at the end. Thus, each of my 3 troop choices are:
6 Plague Marines, 1 has a plasma gun and 1 has a flamer
Heavy Support:
For cheap anti-tank, there's only one. Long Live King Oblit:
2 Obliterators
List analysis:
This is a sturdy little 1000 points. Short on anti-tank, and short on CC prowess, but adequate in the midfield. I'm hoping the Lash Prince helps out in that regard, pulling enemies up to get flamed/rapid fired, or shoving them away if they are CC tough guys. It has a small footprint and is composed of numerous scoring units, none of which are extraordinarily fragile. In Adepticon style escalation (1 HQ and 2 troop choices) it ought to do alright.
The metagame is currently all about skimmer lists and/or nidzilla forces. I think this list could stand up to 1k points of Nidzilla, but I'm much more concerned about its ability to fight skimmers. Tau will be rough, but I think the PM's are sturdy enough that I'll be able to pull my end against such a list. Eldar...ugh, between stopping the lash half the time, and their holo-skimmers that isn't a match I'd be confident in. I'm hoping the New Orks (for whom I'm packing all the flamers) will scare the Eldar off.
