So I was asked what I'd run if I was going to play a GK army.

I don't think much of 'gimmicks' in 40K. They work once, then they don't work in your FLGS anymore.

So this is built around solid troop choices, stuff that makes the list very dangerous for vehicles, hordes, assault, and shooting armies.

The GK units are all built at numbers so you essentially have to gut the squad to get half it's points.

The Inq Stormtroopers should hide, but give you AP2 goodness if you can't overwhelm the other guy.

The regular grey knights can be swapped to teleport attack if you really want to, but I'd rather have them on the board and move up to seize objectives as needed.

The GK Termies (and master) are there to punish TMC lists. They rip Carnifexes new ones. Tyrants should be shot dead before getting to you, but if they aren't blow them away with the force weapons.

You have 2 autocannons, not because the 33 S6 shots at range won't take stuff down, but mostly so people can't hide in the corners with light squads. The 4 lascannons are your tank busting. Most tank 'armies' use lower armor vehicles to send you off, you can deal with them with the S6 shots. It's only glancing but you have enough to worry anyone.

Don't be afraid to 'lose' your 2 GK units shots when moving up. The Termies can move and fire as needed.

Normally you'd not want to bring the Termies, but given the shroud most of the other guys fire in the first two turns is going to go into the 50 guardsmen. Hopefully you'll have neutralized heavy tank threats by the time they get shot away. Deploy on your table edge to maximize your shroud and IG range. Let them come to you, and be patient.

Here's my ridiculous idea for 2k:

Grand master with a psycannon, psychic hood and holocaust

3 x 8 Grey knights w/2 psycannons

2 x dreadnoughts with las/ml/extra armor

2 x armored fist squads with auto/plas and a chimera with two heavy flamers and smoke/extra armor

1 x 6 inquisitorial stormtroopers with two plasmaguns

2 x 10 roughrides with hunting lances, veteran sarge with hunting lance

----------------------------

Concept:
Plop your grey knights down and hoof it in cover. Advance while shooting.

Put your dreadnoughts in defensible shooting positions.

Stick your chimeras somewhere, used as mobile bunkers for the roughriders if need be.

Rush your chimeras right at them or save them as anti-ork missiles, depending.

Put your armored fist guys somewhere to shoot at tanks/whatever.

Do something with the roughriders, preferably at least earning their points back
