We decided not to get DAmocles, as neither of was interested
in the UNA (I think that's the other faction). So we got the rulebook,
the Therian list, and the Karman list, and we're looking to try out
the rules.

What's a good mix of what will be out, Karman vs. Therian, by
February/March? I'm thinking 2-3 units large, no reinforcement
rules for the first few games.

Well, I am assuming your going with the karmans, Felix.

Which on a tight budget is a good thing. For what you pay, you get alot of points worth of monkeys. 2x more than what I get for my redblock.

Therians are nearly as expensive points wise as are Karmans. Therians just get more models. it seems about 60-75% of the karmans are going to be relewased by march, so you have quite a bit to gather if you feel inclined.

I can give you a good list for therians, as therians are my main army. 90% of theirans are available right now, and nothing is planned to be released for them that we know, except for type 3 striders.

Assault golems are good units. I recommend at least one unit wit attachment.

Storm golems arent bad, but assault golems are the best type 2 infantry therians can get.

A wraith is pretty much compulsory.

That should be a good start for therians. Around 1200 points-ish.

Karmans....hmmm I am going to have to look into them a bit closer to give you any info, as I have been dedicating my time to my new red blok army.

Of the three main platoons, what's a good one to start with?

I'd look at the Therian book myself, but I got it as a gift
for my older brother ("The first one's free...") and didn't
get to read it.

The problem with the Karman release schedule is that we
won't see the Wendigos until April, and then the Yetis come
out in May. It's a temporary setback, I know, but I did
want to take advantage of Libra's ability to use Medics, and
I won't with just * soldier units.

After sitting down for a couple hours at work and reading through the Karman book in depth, I have the following opinion. Dont buy more than one unit of anakongas with attachment. The firepower they put out with their plebeian guns are really awesome, but I think you will be using other things more often. Such as kaptars who actually have a semblance of range. Without medics in your anakonga squads, you wont see them lasting long (even though you do have supreme morale scores), unless you are a defender and use cover for the anakongas against the approaching attacker.

For a starter platoon, I would go for Libra (not much choice there with the amount of models currently). But I think that you're ultimately better off going with the Flux platoon after more models are released when fighting against Therians.

The reason being is that type 2 (Wendigos and Yetis) and type 3 (K-Fighters, K-Warriors and K-Shooters) infantry are going to be better able to make therians work for the win. The vehicles you will have access to with Flux will be nasty. Plus, with type 2 you'll have more medics if you want to play Libra again as well as utilizing the Heroes Cornelius and Saint Anuman in his Jindo-Un whom will work synergistically with Flux and Libra.

Sadly, until early summer/late spring you're kinda stuck in a bad position with karman. I highly recommend using bases labeled with the units names and what model they rep until you are able to get models. Yeah, it sucks, but its your best bet to get a handle on what units and what play style you will like when the models are released.

For Therian platoons, I think the only one he shouldnt play is Warriors. Being forced to engage an enemy (especially against karmans who will wipe you a new one in HTH) is not the most tactical way to play this game, just for a free overseer in each platoon.

Webstriders and Cyphers are his best bet.

Here's what I came up with:

Libra
Platoon 1
- 4 Anakongas (Mentor)
- 8 Wendigos (Mentor, 2 Grenade Launcher)
- 2 K-Shooter (Mentor)

Wendigos have a medic, but it doesn't show up for some
reason in the easy army builder thing.

Therian Webstriders
Platoon 1
- 3 Assault Goliaths
- 6 Assault Golems (1 Nucleus Gun)
- 6 Storm Golems (1 Sonic Gun)
- Wraith Golgoth

All of this is do-able by April. (Also helps curb spending
buying stuff over time like this)

The Therians outnumber you by about 100AP, but other than that it looks like a pretty balanced score across both lists. They will be able to equally affect each other. It should become a matter of tactics and luck to see who wins instead of who has the coolest collection.

Looking at EASY AT-43, I am able to get the medic option to work for the Wendigos...

It's there, but it doesn't display in that preview box for me.

Whoa! Okay, questions out the ying-yang. I'm starting UNA soon, and I'm thinking of maybe some Cogs too. How many points is normal for a game? 2k? And how many platoons? Also, what is easy AT-43, because that looks righteous.

2k is the "Norm" around these parts... You can usually fill out 1-1.5 platoons at that point level depending on the layout.

Easy AT-43 is a Army Builder type program that a fan created. In my opinion it blows Army Builder out the water. The features, like the scenario creator and miniature inventory are simply awesome... Did I mention it is completely free!?

Good luck. Steel Tacs w/ the Take Cover Combat drill and Cobra's will be your new best friend.

Questions, then. Does anyone actually own the Damocles Set and can tell me exactly what comes in it for Steel Troopers? Is it two leaders and two missile launchers and 5 Troopers? 1 leader, 2 missile launchers and 6 troopers? I'm just curious.

Also, are characters really necessary, or do the officer upgrades work just as well?
