I know while the ork pdf book was floating around there was some discussion about which size was best, and i was wondering what has actually worked best in practice.

My thoughts are that the two options are 20 or 30. I feel that theoretically 30 would be best, but on the table top they would be very clumsy and awkward. 20 would be more maneuverable, and IMO just more enjoyable to play with.

Having just picked up the book and not gotten any chances to play any games with it yet, I would like to know what squad sizes have worked well for others?

When you combine Speed and Power you get Lightning.

While the sentiment is good (ask people for actual concrete experience), I don't think you can get a straight answer here. So much will depend on local metagame, and on terrain selection.

The best you're going to get is Theoryhammer, and that tells you that 30 man mobs are best. Simply put, they require the heaviest casualties before the Orks will run.

I'll be buliding 60, to usually be played as 3 mobs of 20, but reorganised as 2 mobs of 30 for occasions when i'm expecting a whole lot of running bravely into massed anti-personnel fire.

For most games, a mob of 30 will be just too unmanouverable

Personally, I go for a mob of 30, with several smaller mobs. they're fearless for longer and people tend to shoot at them more due to their massive intimidation factor.

Thats the way i plan on running my boyz. Its a big target that takes a lot of punishment off the other stuff but if ignored hits like a truck.

Remember that thirty wounds to one of two mobs of thirty Orks will wipe out one mob and leave one. Whereas thirty wounds to one of three mobs of twenty Orks will wipe out one mob and leave two.
