I've used a Skrag themed army, perhaps I can help.
First, Gorgers are awesome, and Skrag's ability to get them on the board is awesome, but you can over do it with Gorgers. I take around 4 (give or take), depending on what army my oppoenent is playing. Gorgers are tough, but you want to use'em where they excel at, which is killing artillery and magic users, and with a lot of gorgers, getting in some sweet flank charges. And while they are toughness 5, with four wounds, they have no real armour saves until Skrag gets in a bunch of kills, so be careful. Also, don't feel the need to load up on Gorgers if you don't want too - take the required amount for taking Skrag of course, but i've done very well with just that compliment as well.
Skrag though, is hell on wheels. He's basically a dragon that doesn't fly, and when he starts killin', it gets ugly fast. The icing on the cake is he's a level four caster, which is the ONLY way you're going to get a level four caster for under 2,000 points. Also, a couple of kills gets all your Gorgers on the board, which is so very nice. (Dice rolls can be unforgiving, as we all know).
Some pitfalls though - Gorgers can't do much alone, outside of their niche. It's best to get'em in on a flank charge the turn after they come into play (since they can't charge the turn they come in off board edge). So hit a unit with your bulls/iron guts, and send in a gorger to help combat res. Remeber though - Gorgers don't count as Unit strength 5, and can't deny rank bonuses on a flank charge.
My personal expierences with a skrag army are mostly positive. I used it so much my opponents almost stopped taking artillery and rear units entirely, since they knew my Gorgers were a'comin, and soon. The downside is Skrag also becomes a bullet/magic magnet. I've had a steam tank crush him first turn, and casters dump every bit of magic at him they can muster. So it pays to use him crafty like, rather than send him charging in, depending on what your opposing army is comprised of. I also find it benefical to get him stuck in against units that are Unbreakable (like flagellants), since they won't run from him, are easy to kill, and only feed the Skrag powers get gets when the killin's good.
