Just wondering as a friend and I are putting a army together for him with an all gobbo theme. My question is obviously the weak link, or one of the weak links will be LD and failing those tests. I'm curious how you work this out, such as magic items, tactics, units, etc.
I'd really love to here your thoughts on the best tactics to keep your greenies stuck in!

Thanks,

My son learned that the hard way when he insisted on a pure goblin army.

His fight against my brother's vampire army was reasonably close until the dire wolves managed to sweep down his flank. Once the snowball started rolling, most of the army whizzed in their shorts and started running.

He's working on putting a little steel in their spine with some black orcs now.

Somebody here had a neat tale about the skavens' screaming bell managing a 13 on turn 1 and sending a whole goblin army packing from the get-go. I was chuckling over that for weeks.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

funny.

I'm not an expert but I don't think there's much you can do about goblin leadership.

That doesn't necessarily mean you can't make a viable army out of them: maybe max out on shooty elements and use their fast cav to good effect?

that would unfortunately likely mean maxing magic which would hurt you even more in the leadership department.

Kevin Coleman beat my Wood Elves in the 5th round of last year’s Colonial GT to take overall. Using a goblin list. For more on how he did it/what he used, go here:

If you're dead set on using just goblins, some general tips:
Take the normal gobbo warboss for better leadership (as a general). Also a BSB with the panic reroll-banner is also very useful so you troops stay in line better.
As for the core troops, if you're going for the green mass approach, basic night goblins are probably your best bet. Units of 20 (or more) with standard, musician, nets and a fanatic or two are surprisingly durable if they don't fail the netting in the critical time. Several of these as the main line, couple of chariots, 4 chukkas, some fast cav and the characters would make decent base of the list in my opinion.

Can Grimgor Iron hide have goblins in his army? Cause iirc he has a 10 ld value. Which could add some serious ld if he was held behind the lines the whole time.

Only Gorbad has ld10, altough if you run Grimgor, he certainly need not be held behind the lines due to his killyness. Just the opposite in fact.
(IIRC no character in the book sets any limits at taking goblins)

If you want to run all-Night Gobs, Skarsnik gives you Ld8, which is a substantial improvement over Ld7. If your opponents don't like special characters, do what Chaoslord said and use the common goblin lord.

Oh, well the info shee given on him for the Storm of Chaos campaign said he couldn't use goblins. Somethin to do with Gork or Mork telling him to kill them all and that they were the reason his ladz ran away at that battle against those Chaos humies.

That's just for the special army list for him in Storm of Chaos.

You can field Grimgor in a regular O&G army, and have access to all the gobbos you want.

Been a away for a few days, but happy to see some advice. I like all of your suggestions and the tournament report is a true story for any "Underdog" army in the game!

It'd be so easy to build an all NG list with Skull Pass bits floating around I thought I might throw one together and it would look really cool I think, all those stunties jabbing their spears in the air, LOL!

Thanks again for the advice to all!!!
