Today i played against Space Marines.

My list was:
1 Shooty Tyrant
1 Broodlord + 6 Stealers
2*6 Stealers
2*12 Termagaunts
17 Spinegaunts
18 Hormagaunts
1 Lictor
1 Dakkafex
1 Gunfex (BS and VC)
2 Zoas (Warpblast and Synapse)
4 Shooty Warriors
3 Winged Warriors
1 Red Terror
1 Ravener

I am convinced, that this is a quite friendly all-comers list.

My enemy, who knew he was facing swarmy Nids, took this

1 chaplain (+10 Assault Marines)
1 Dreadnought (asscannon, Drop Pod)
2*5 Terminators (2*asscannon each, one inside Drop Pod)
2*5 Space Marines (1 Lascannon each)
2*10 Space Marines (Heavy Bolter and Flamer each)
2 Whirlwinds
1*6 Devastators (4 Lascannons)

What do you think about this list? I think it is beyond the friendly level we usually play, but maybe i am just dissapointed, because i lost three times in a row now (against different opponents).

I lost especially, because i just could not get a clear line of sight to his Whirlwinds and those took out half of my swarm. Then his Terminators deep struck and attacked from an angle where i had no cover.

You do not get to decide what is friendly. If you do not like playing the opponent, be a big enough man to tell him that he isn't fun to play against, or make your list better. You don't get to have your cake and eat it too, despite what GW seems to promise gamers.

Looks like he took a really good list to combat yours. I don't think you or your list sucks. It does seem a bit spread out though. I would probably drop the Lictor, Zoas, Red Terror and Ravener for more gaunts. It looks like you both had shooty armies with a little counter attack element just in-case. The problem is is he has a good deal of Lascannons and the ability to snipe your big shooty stuff while you're stuck peeling grunts off the board till you get into the heavies. What other lists did you face with this?

Well, i do know that, thank you...
But before confronting him, i wanted to make sure, that his list actually is what i think it is (an anti-swarm list).

I am able to make an anti-Marine list aswell, but i don't want it to escalate needlessly into powergamer area. His lists usually were a lot more friendly than that.

@Stormtrooper X
The other lists were a close combat centered Chaos Space Marine list. (But i think i might have lost, because i spend all my S8+ fire on 3 Obliterators and did not manage to kill a single one for 6 turns).
The third was a Tau list with 40+ Firewarriors and 2 Hammerheads. But there i am pretty sure, that i lost that one, because it was night fighting on a board with little terrain and all Tau had Night Fighting equipment. (It was a campaign game, so it was okay, that the odds were in his favour. He had earned it before.)

If his lists are usually friendly give him the benefit of the doubt. The big indicator is if he switches his army to counter whatever he is going to fight; it is an unfortunate symptom of powergaming fever.

2 Whirlwinds in a Smurf army is a joke.

Guys being a dick. Tell him so.

Go play a game with a mech list, don't tell him it's mech until you setup.

See if he's a pussy too, and pulls instead of playing.

Man, list changers. The worst in 40k...right up there with cheats.

That does suck dumping all that firepower into Oblits and then having them raise a giant powerfinger in your directions, but what can you do? As far as the Loyalist army you played, maybe your friend just had a crazy idea and wanted to throw it out there. It does seem like it was designed with your list in mind and maybe he just wanted to crush you for good times. I wouldn't worry about it too much though as long as the trend doesn't continue, but sometimes people get the taste of victory and will do anything to keep it up.

Well, my friend usually is a very cool guy and i am 100 percent sure, he will understand, if i ask him not to use this kind of list again. Until then he only lost against Nids (not only me) so probably he was trying out a new list. I just wanted to make sure first, that i don't overreact and the list really is as hard, as i felt.

If you are running hordes and someone brings lots of flamers, heavy bolters, and whirlwinds...that isn't being friendly.

Anyone can run very overpowered lists against certain armies, but would he run that POS against mech lists? Nidzilla? Any marines? I mean really.

Stacking the deck in your favor is jackassery of the first order.

Honestly I don't think his list is over powered at all, nor do I think it was designed to go up against you. Of course the key to knowing is watching him play a game against someone else and seeing if his list is different. But as far as dealing with tyranids.... there are much better ways for a marine army to do it than with this army.

Angron- crushing the theme and fluff of armies one horde at a time.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

There is nothing really wrong with his list.

He took five & ten man squads (with the exception of the Devastators) despite being vanilla. He didnt take las/plas with his 5 man squads either, let alone the 6th marine. He just took the lascannon. Thats a thematic combat squad IMHO.

I dont know why Stelek has problems with Whirlwinds, taking two is nothing unusual, and they are a common 'only tank' because you can hide them.

meanwhile I liie your 'variety' list. I like bit of everythingvariety lists, but you have to expect to lose quite a bit if you do.

My recommendation is to take two types of friendly game. Standard friendly games like your opponent is playing where you tone down the cutting edge but still take a focus. And variety games where if its not troops its 0-1, troops are 0-2 per type, with exception to allow a slot to be filled up once all unit type options are represented.

Bit of everything games are great, as you MUST take the rough with the smooth and choose ther right unit for the right role. I would like to play a list like yours with my 0-1 unit cap eldar.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
