Good idea on the canoneer and the praetorians, they're both staples of the Skorne.

If you've got immortals, and you're getting praetorians, I'd strongly suggest getting an ancestral guardian or two. They're brilliant. Decent p+s weaponmasters that use the souls of those praetorians (who die, as praetorians are wont to do) to fuel themselves. If you hit them and don't 1-shot them then you take a weaponmaster strike back, not nice. They also have key synergies with the immortals. Immortals without AGs seems like you're handicapping the immortals.

Then with praetorians, immortals and AGs, you're slap-bang in Zaal territory. The Canoneer goes well with him, and the cyclopse savages from the box-set are never a bad idea. A 2nd warlock is the easiest way to change how your army plays. Zaals very different from morghoul.

I can't help so much with advice on Morghoul. The canoneer would be good with him, as would his box-set. A unit of pain-givers go well with him, as you can stack his +2" movement and theres, and have movement 8" titans, or cyclopses that charge 12" with 2" reach, giving them a 14" threat range. Plus they hit HARD.

Morghoul's generally considered the weakest Skorne warlock.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Those are great suggestions.

You could also consider Basilisk Krea, Agonizers and a Totem Hunter, my brother plays Skorne and he finds them to be very effective.

I'd say Makeda is probably the most forgiving Skorne warlock, and I'll second that Zaal would go well with what you have, and I'd say so would Hexeris and Makeda.

Oh and you'll want a full squad of Pretorians.

i got
morgoul
2x cycops savages
1x titan gladiator
6x immortals

this week i will definatly be adding the ancestral guardian and preatorians, and hopefully if i can scrounge enough for a cannoneer.

Ha! You want me to start going on about Legion or Cryx? I could talk you out of a considerable amount of money.

I agree with the above comments. An Ancestral Guardian and a Krea would be a great place to start in addition to your choices. People have good suggestions, but if you're tight for cash those two would be some great bang for the buck in combination with what you already have. If you wind up wanting to run beast-heavy you may want to consider some Paingivers. But I would warn you; play too much Hordes/WM and that break from GW might become permanent..........

For long term model planing, consider the Cav, and that ugly little Agonizer.

I just played a 1000 point game last nigth against Skorne and my trolls were destroyed. The Ferox and Agonizer were definitly MVP's.

Don't you already have Skorne too?

dooooo iiiiiiiiiiit

Skorne is a cool army that really adds some character to Hordes, alongside Circle. I really want to paint up a first rate Circle army someday. I'm just not big on any of their warlocks, really.

I have some. But I stopped when I couldn't get the color scheme
to pan out right (it was the orange pink elephants of doom!).

I felt a stirring in my loins when I say Grand Aptimus Zaal and
the Immortals, but I've so far managed to avoid buying too much
deeper into unpainted debt.

I like Morghul, but I run a pretty unconventional Skorne force. I don't do kreas: mostly Cyclopses (Savages and brute) and and a Titan (not a cannoneer). He's not the best anti-warmachine 'lock, as most of his abilities are against living models, but he's fast and fun. You're going to want to run him beast heavy, and with a lot of paingivers to help with fury control. While he's only Fury 5, Skorne are so good at fury control--between Cyclopses who can boost AFTER the roll and paingivers who can manipulate fury nicely--that it's much less of an impediment than it is for, say, Madrak (I run trolls as well).

Makeda is your troop 'lock. I haven't used her yet, but I'm curious to see how she does with some Venators and Acurii.

Can you tell I run unconventional Skorne lists?

The main thing to watch out for is movement. Skorne don't have anything (really, maybe cav) that has pathfinder, movement bonuses, Advanced Deployment, etc. While they're not slow like trolls, they won't be in your opponent's face the way Legion is. I got a unit of Bog Trogs and a Totem Hunter basically to give me some more speed options.

Ancestral Guardians mean you want a lot of cheap troops to run with 'em to give 'em the soul points they seriously need.

Conventional Wisdom:
For an immortal heavy army, you could do something like:

Zaal
Basilisk Drake
Basilisk Krea
Cyclops Savage
Min Immortals
Ancestral Guardian
2x8 Praetorians.

500 even. Swap out one unit of Praetorians for Paingivers, and definitely get a titan and a cannoneer.

Evolution looks to bring a lot for Praetorians, including a UA and an artillery piece, so Makeda could be considered as a second 'lock.

Try Here to play with lists.

My brother does the same. Bog Trogs don't bother me as much anymore but the Totem Hunter gives me fits.

Interesting. The last guy I played who had Skorne did a number on me
with Ferox, cannonneers and constantly running Venators. I didn't really
understand it enough to see how it all worked together though.

Hrmn. Interesting. I'm trying to figure out how that works. Who got Diminish? How did he run the Ferox? Flankers or frontal assault? Running Venators? Like, jockeying for position, or...?

Wacky

They ran for position. I'll have to ask him next time I see
him. He might be playing in a tourney tomorrow, though.

All I know is, he cornered my Kromac army pretty bad
at Hordes: Unleashed.

Brotherhood of Blood

Competetive Skorne list that I run tend to center around two Kreas. I usually like to bring one basalisk also. Kreas can lock down two opposing beasts almost every game because of thier animus and abilities. With immortals you need at least one AG. I would use Zaal or makeda with them along with Praets and battle cats. One of the best tactics I have seen with Venators is casting the Drakes animus on them and knocking things backwards away from your block.

ok so picked up more skhorne this week, so i now can field a lil over 500 pts.

8x preatorians
6x immortals
1x ancestral guardian
1x titan gladiator
1x titan cannoneer
2x cyclops savages

warlocks:
Xerxies
morghoul

i picked up Xerxies cause i loved the model and his charge with the troops and the AC seems like it would be nasty, and his beats control helpfull

my plan is gonna be to run a speartip style formation with preatorians in the front followed by the AC and immortals followed by Xerxies with the gladiator and 1 svage on one flank and cannoneer and savage on the other.it's pritty much be a spear to the heart right for the enemy warlock.

what do you guys think?
