If you take the Mechanized doctrine which states that all infantry models must take a chimera, regardless of if they can, does that mean you cannot deepstrike in veterans as they need to have a chimera?

Just wondering as I was hoping of experimenting with mechanized/drop army, but if it cannot be down with veterans (I own no storm troops), then I suppose I'll just give up the idea.

Thanks.

I don't remember any restriction for this situation (drop troopers and mechanized doctrines) in the IG codex (although there could be one I don't remember). From a RAW perspective, you don't have to deploy your troops inside or even near their transport vehicle. From a fluff perspective it doesn't make much sense to me to do what you propose, but I don't think RAW prohibits it. Anyone else have a different take on it? Any restrictions I am not remembering?

I was wondering about this as well. I play a mech list but I have always thought it might be fun to have something such as deep striking veterans. It seems to me that you can't really do that if they take a transport but then again I haven't really dug into the rules to deep either.

I can just see everyone in my play group calling foul when i deploy Chimeras but then deep strike the squads that go in them.

From the Adepticon 1.1.0 FAQ:

8.14.0
Q: If a unit has both the Jungle Fighters and Mechanized doctrines can the unit infiltrate if not deployed inside
their Chimera (and the Chimera is deployed normally)?
A: No.

I think this extends to deepstriking also. If they are forced into reserve by escalation maybe you could deepstrike them, but otherwise I think they need to deploy with their car.

This is what I had assumed, but I thank you for some extra clarification.

Except the Infiltrate Universal Special Rule specifically states that a unit with a transport vehicle loses the Infiltrate ability. There is no such specific mention for Deep Strike.

You can deep strike a squad when it's available to enter from reserves, just keep in mind you cannot deep strike the vehicle--it enters play from the board edge as normal, after it's nominal cargo has already deep struck into play.
