I love the Advance Wars series and recently got the latest one that was released on Friday 25 Jan.

I've played about 10 games, all solo, half of them in the campaign and the other half the map games.

I am having a serious problem with the colours. I have a degree of colour blindness (reg-green colour vision defect.) I am making a lot of mistakes with the units and maps. It is difficult to distinguish woods, Red troops from Yellow, and which cities are unoccupied or already belong to me as Red.

Is anyone else having these problems?

yeah, I imagine that's a big problem. I have that game too, it's still great.

Hey Killkrazy, have you had any trouble with the dakka site and colour blindness? I used colourblind safe colours where possible but can only simulate it to a point.

Staying on topic, I have loved every advance wars game for GBA/DS and will be getting this one next week (thus delaying the next dakka release even more he he). To anyone who has never played it, I would highly recommend it. Dual Strike is probably my second favourite DS game so far (after castlevania: portrait of ruin).

I'm fine with Dakka.

I've had problems on the company intranet at work but some of us complained and now they road test any colour changes before final release.

What's happened with the latest Advance Wars is they have changed the look and colour palette to a darker, less cartoony theme. There are various changes in the rules -- some units have changed or gone and there are a couple of new units, also the way CO powers work has changed.

There's a lot of new maps though many of them are simple symmetrical designs which are not as interesting, in my opinion.

The multiplayer options are interesting. They allow you to create your own maps and swap them with other players. Hopefully we'll see a lot of fan maps appearing.

I just don't like the design of the DS, how the screens are so small compared to overall design, for example. Plus, I tend to hate the cartoony games that tend to come out on Nintendo systems.

However, I may break down and buy a DS just for this game since I do love the previous versions so much.

The DS Lite screens are larger and the shell smaller than the original DS. It is a very pocketable design, smaller than the PSP. The clamshell protects the screens and acts as an instant "sleep" feature which is brilliant for portable games you play on the move.

The games do tend to be the cartoony type. You are never going to get a photo-realistic looking game out of the hardware, also Nintendo have always gone for that kind of look.

I a lot of people who think like that. which is IMO really sad, because the games really are fantastic.

also, every fan of advance wars should give fire emblem a try.

"Chacun son gout" as far as graphics are concerned.

I'm up to mission 25 of the campaign mode. I am no longer being surprised by the changes in point costs and effectiveness. I think this may be the last campaign battle, though there are "training" scenarios for each one, which I haven't looked at yet.

The colours are a worse problem in some maps than others. No reponse yet to my email to Ninty.

Still a good buy though. The network and multiplayer options are very interesting.

I'm still at mission 20. with the rocks in the middle and you have to fight finn who starts with a lot of planes. either I soon start building figters and stuff and kill his air units, after which he comes with to many anti-air units. OR, I build lots of anti-ir to deal with his stuff which he then wipes out with heavy tanks....
