I'm in the process of making an army (fully converted) to represent the 4 major factions of chaos....but i've hit a stumbling block...I have no idea how to convert my unit that holds the icon of nurgle....I don't want them to be in the state of decay that plague marines are....but that being said...what is nurgle without rot and decay...here are some examples of what i've done so far....

Any suggestions would be appreciated....

A fly/bug head/eyes, a dirty looking fat guy, antlers, a gross corroded weapon. All options you could use w/ out making the bearer look decayed.

It's not just the bearer....it's the whole unit....the icon bearer just has a symbol of some sort of the faction that the unit represents....

hmmmm....a fly....wonder if I could find some fly looking wings and a cool head.....*ponders*

Clear plasticard or the blister pack material. Plus all those could apply to the unit make them a bit fatter looking a few with one or two antlers and featuring very thick corroded weaponry (cleavers, sickles, ect.)

Part of the fluff of the DeathGuard is that they were not an Index Astaries faction per se and cobbled their armour together which is part of the part of the reason they look dilapidated. So you could give them a rusted hodge-podge look piecing armour from lots of different kits with plenty of rusted corroded spots. You could create the power pack out of craps too to really distinguish the lad with a couple exhaust stacks instead of the usual ports. Nurgle is a lot of fun in my opinion. Good luck and enjoy yourself!

There's a fly head on one of the sprues in the chaos Spawn box... There is a pair of wings in there, too... I'd use those before trying to recreate fly wings. The ones on the Spawn sprue would fill 2 roles for you. First, it would give you wings. Secondly, they would look decayed without making your whole Marine look decayed.

The fly head idea's cool, I was going to join MachineSlave in suggesting that rust is just as decayed as rot. Check out this tank to see what I mean: http://www.geocities.com/barpharanges_1/MK_1_Nurgle_Raider.html

The marines look great so far.
Nurgle Marines are very resilient so maybe bullet holes with rot inside and gashes in their army.

Hmm, I like the fly idea as well. If you make your own wings, use the clear blister plastic. You could use a fine brush or toothpick to paint the 'veins' into the wings. Once that dries, put them into Future (the floor polish). The superglue will make the veins look translucent yet foggy, and putting the wings into Future will make the plastic appear...more clear.

I really like that beastman, the Tzeench is nice as well. The Slaneeshi needs a bit more work, smoothing out of the snake body and then texturing some scales. Over all, these look really good.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

I love the Icon of Khorne - nothing fancy about the paintjob, but extremely effective. It's really nice and clean.
