Yes, I'm rising from the dead again, with a question about Saurus Lords.
I know the super duper Saurus Lord is popularly called the "nike oldblood," but I'll be goddammed if I can remember his kit-out. Anyone want to refresh my memory? Thanks.

Could it be ...
Saurus Oldblood
Scimitar of the Sun +2 Attacks
The Maiming Shield +1 Attack
Charm of the Jaguar Warrior Mv9
Chotec, Old Ones, Sotek

Is that ... 8 S5 attaks? The mind boggles
I actually really like the Burning Blade of Whoever myself, not just because it vaporizes treemen.

Sometimes the blade that ignores armor saves is substituted. Str5 just wont cut it against brets.
also you forgot the blessing that gives him +1 attack when charging - 9 attacks. Yes, the guy is crazy.

Welcome back? I've been around for six months or so, pretending to study before landing a programming job.
You can do different things. The charm is 20 pts. I personally take a great weapon I find it to be just as effective as extra attacks, and the extra points go a long way. And you still go first on the charge. w/ I3 otherwise. wee.

Well there's the ubiquitous JSOD [Jaguar Saurus of Doom] build for your hero slot. Scar vet, gw, jaguar charm, some other stuff to give better save or such. Cheap, lightning fast S7 where you need it. Much hated by yours truly.
It's good to see you around Bugs, staying a while?

Yeeees, that would be ...
Scar vet
GW, LA, Shield, Jaguar Charm
// 113 points
and a ward save is another 30. Probably worth it since he's only 4+ w/ 2W. You can still choose from the spawnings too, if you like, I usually take Quetzl.
That's what I like to do, either that or a banner in with my cavalry. Someone got me some pterodons and he is less necessary with those.
I really like the great weapons over the magic weapons. W/ I3 you really save points, unless you want something that stacks with a shield or banner. Ditto the spawnings, altho they're all great. You just have to ask: do I want a fearless Scar vet who charges into forests with 10 attacks and generates dispel dice and a couple re-rolls? Or do I want like two more boxes of skinks on the table. Personally I prefer more stuff.

Hey Bugs! Good to see you!
You might be thinking of this one:
Therion wrote:Saurus Oldblood at a whopping 303 points. He had light armor, Charm of the Jaguar Warrior, Aura of Quetzl, Sword of Might, Enchanted Shield, and spawnings of Sotek, Tlazcotl and Old Ones. Immune to psychology, 6 S6 attacks, T5, 2+ armor save, 4+ ward save and a bunch of re-rolls. It is my honest opinion that when equipped like this he is possibly the most powerful character in the entire game. Because of his mobility and incredible resilience he can take on anything except a Treeman Ancient with Netlings, and since no character can take on the Treeman Ancient that's not really a concern.

Bah, my thirster could kill him....
Come to think of it, the thirster could kill the ancient too.
Yea, take the guy above, mount him on a cold one and he is really hard to kill and dishes out the pain.
Most people take one lord and then the nike-sarus as a hero.

IIRC the Burning Blade gives an additional -2 AS modifier so it does make him a nut cracker against bretts. It is also a fair sight cheaper than the blade of no armor save.

How about not giving a magic weapon and taking venom of the firefly or whatever it is. Attacks count as magical and poison for 15. I like it a great deal as you get your +2str from a GW and chance on automatically wounding with a whopping -4 AS. Ofcourse you don't have anything aside from Sotek to amp your attacks.

Sorry but Venom of Firefly Frog is an enchanted item and you want Jaguar charm instead of that.

the JSOD is good but too vanilla for me. every lizardman army uses one it seems. yes it is amazing, but i want to see someone tool up a oldblood to be kick arse without the jaguar charm! because that would intrigue me into taking an oldblood. i just hate vanilla!!!

This is how I run him.
Spawnings of Itzl, Quetzl, and either Sotek or Tepok
Cold One Mount
Enchanted Shield and Light Armor
Aura of Quetzl or Glyph Necklace
Burning Blade of Chotec
Gleaming Pendant
He has (-1)+ Save, 4+ Ward against anything that could make his save worse that 2+ and the Gleaming Pendant is a nice ace in the hole if an oppent's lord gets cocky and challenges on the charge. Alternatively you could make his save a 0+ take out the Gleaming Pendant, and replace his weapon with the one that ignores armor. Either way he is a great can opener and duelist.
