Hey guys. Recently, and its been a while, my and my bro picked up our 40k with all the 5ed talk goin around, so we thought itd be fun to play test the rules ourselves. 1000points, and this is what i came up with, (by the way, he plays dark angels space marines)

doctrines: iron discipline, close order drill, conscript platoons, drop troops, veterans
HQ - Junior Officer
- Veteran with standard
- Iron Discipline
- Heavy Weapon team: Heavy Bolter/Mortar(not sure which one to chose but same points cost)

Total - 136 points

Elites - Veteran Squad x5
- 3 plasma guns

Total - 75 points

Elites - Veteran Squad x5
- 3 plasma guns

Total - 75 points

Troops - Delta Command
- Iron Discipline
Delta #1 - Heavy Bolter
Delta #2 - Heavy Bolter
Delta #3 - Heavy Bolter
Delta #4 - Heavy Bolter

Total - 325 points

Troops - conscripts x20 - Flamer x2

Total - 98 points

Leman Russ Battle Tank - Hull heavy bolter

Total - 145 points

Leman Russ Battle Tank - Hull heavy bolter

Total - 145 points

Total - 999 so i can add a bolt pistol or sumthing?

Leman Russ' shoot stuff, and anything. I loaded up on heavy bolters so the more saves he has to make. Im not sure on the HQ support squad, mortars and heavy bolters cost the same, but i never tried mortars before, so probably heavy bolter, then the veteran squads are for light vehicle hunting and tougher opponents, termies, commander guy etc, and MEQ killing, they can infiltrate so i'll get some rapid fire going.

any suggestions are welcome

also, i read somewhere that a standard bearer banner gives a leadership bubble of 18''??? which i think is wrong cos my codex says 12'', so if somebody could let me know which one it is, that would be great, thanks.

I know a lot of people hate heavy weapons in the HQ but if you're set on having one you might as well use the mortar. That way you can hide the HQ and still take potshots at things.

I'd like to see some lascannons in there in case the marines bring a tank. You've got plenty of anti-infantry (just look at all those HBs) and your Vet squads probably won't last long. At a pinch maybe swap one squad's plasma for meltas.

ok cool, thanks for the reply (you bothered to help)

i know you suggested stuff but in the time i posted that list and now, i revisited the list and made drastic changes...

doctrines: Iron discipline, close order drill, conscript platoons, (whatever else)

HQ - junior officer + veteran with standard

Anti-tank squad with 3 lascannons (or replace with autocannons and add sponsoon heavy bolters on one tank)

Troops - Junior Officer

Squad #1 - Heavy bolter
Squad #2 - Heavy bolter
Squad #3 - Heavy bolter
Squad #4 - Heavy bolter

Troops - x20 conscripts + commissar with power weapon

Heavy - Leman Russ battle tank + hull heavy bolter

Heavy - Leman Russ battle tank + hull heavy bolter

Heavy - Basalisk

total = 1001 points (my mates dont mind and i know of no tournaments with 1000 point limits)

the list goes that lascannons obviously target big stuff, if they need anti-tank support, i figured i could have a go with the bassy (S 9 + 2D6 (if 5th ed rules, choose highest)) so i thought it may have a decent chance. Heavy bolters thin down hoards as well as russies provide hoarde damage and anti-MEQ. and last but not least, unbreakable squad of conscripts captures objectives, ties up important units (with a hidden power weapon). I think it seems competative not only against space marines, but all armies, my mates get tyranids and grey knights and eldar so i think i could take em

what you guys think?

Looks like you've got a bit of a gunline going on there. Shame you lost the vet squads.

I'd like to see the lascannons in the platoon squads. As your only anti-tank they will be a priority target and won't last long if they're all together.

If this were my list I'd probably drop the conscripts and the commisar and squeeze in a second platoon taking the points from the anti-tank squad and the basilisk (because two Russes are probably enough at 1000pts)

I don't have my codex handy at the moment so can't comment on points and whatnot.

EDIT - Just seen the bit where you mentioned hoards. In that case, put the lascannons in the platoon squads and make the anti-tank into a fire-support squad.
