G'day everyone, built this list for a tourny but have a couple of reservations and would appreciate some input.

I love the synergy between wraith guard and warp spiders. The guard move forward in that implacable way that they do and the spiders jump around picking off anything that gets too close but mostly staying out of sight. Essentially you clear a 24" circle of the board without risking anything of your own.

My problem comes with the harlequins, they are the lists only cc and I am not sure how effective such a small unit will be on foot. Will VOT keep them safe enough or should I drop a unit of spiders to buy them a falcon? Otherwise I could drop the clowns in favour of shining spears.

What do you all think?

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Looks interesting, the Harlies are fine you will probably need something to watch your WG.

You should find some points to give the WL an EML to go with the BL.

Its an interesting list, give it a try. The Harlies can either approach the enemy along a flank or stay back for counterstrike.

I wrote a whole post about why you should take Spears rather than Harlies, and then realized that I was totally wrong. Stick with the Harlies.

They're a good hit for the price. They have a higher model count than the Spears will. Even with their worse save, use of terrain and Fortune should help with that. And they will be better against hordes, which your list will have trouble with otherwise.

You might consider taking the Exarch and Withdraw off of one of the Spider units. Use the points to add more Spiders. Have the Withdraw unit operate more on it's own, while the larger non-Withdraw unit is kept closer to the Hariles. This Spider unit can function as an "anvil" when needed, and get balied out easily when the enemy gets them into CC. Plus, the increased number of shots will help reduce threats to the Harlies (close-range rapid fire in particular).

And you're a brave man taking 10 Wraithguard in a 1200-point tourney where opponents will likely have tooled to take out Marine infantry. Please let us know how it goes!

Nothing maintains wraithguard better than mindwar. Pop the powerfists coming at them and they have little to fear from any list.

If I were you I'd drop the harlies, chuck war and stones on the farsear and use the remaining points to buy another wraithlord with scatterlaser, shuri cannon and a couple of flamers. No opponent will be able to deal with that amount of high toughness (especially with no fists).

Good luck and keep us posted

Mindwar is good for neutralizing fists, but Fortune is overall better. And I rarely advise getting stones for your Farseer, as they're not much less expensive than anther whole Seer.

Wow, here I was thinking I had an original idea.... sheesh

I plan on trying a similiar 1000 point army this weekend.

Main differences are:

9 warp spider including exarch with withdraw (no second unit of WS)

No WL or jetbikes

Farseer with doom and fortune

Instead of Harlies I have 16 Storm Guardians with Warlock and Enhance. (about 170 points I think)

The idea is similiar to yours the WG form a concealed pocket and WS hop out and get anything too close. Storm Guardians with Enhance, Fortune, and Doom should be able to overwhelm most things that get too close. (max 48 attacks on charge that get to reroll wounds striking at I4). That is *alot* of armour saves for anyone to make.

WS should have already hosed and possibly charged any assault unit moving in so the target should be pretty soft...

Down side to the list is the number of units 3 plus Farseer.

How did your list do?

WG are by no means invulnerable.

When you only have two 10 man T6 units on the board, they're going to eat heavy fire from the get go.

It has possibilities in 5th, but I don't think it's worth it's weight in metal to run it in 4th.

Yes, I agree, WG aren't invulnerable and will take heavy fire but that is the idea. They act as a screening shield wall for the storm guardians and the WS.

I was trying to figure out a way to make Enhance work for Storm guardians. They usually need conceal and with them moving up with the WG they effectively get it. I am also using the WG as a moving piece of terrain that the WS can hop back behind.

The fire power is also lessened by the terrain on the board. We have enough terrain sets to make sure the 25% table coverage is met. Ruins, hills, and jungle can limit the units able to target the WG.

I'm not suggesting the list is unbeatable by any strectch, just looking for an alternative list to some of the more common Eldar lists.

Even 25% terrain won't stop dedicated shooting armies in 4th edition from ripping WG up. Just too slow, so you are under the guns far too long.

I am curious, I don't own a eldar codex and I don't want to break any copyright rules but can WG still be a troop choice and ride in a falcon? I seem to remember something about the falcon only holding 6 men & WG have to be 10 strong to be a troop choice?

WG count as two models in a transport, so they can't get into a Falcon at all, and only 5 plus a Warlock can get into a Serpent, even.

And no, they're not troops unless they're 10 strong. Short of a Vampire Raider, there are no transports that can carry a full squad.

Actually, it isn't WG counting as two normal Eldar that prevents them from getting into a Falcon, since they can be selected as a squad of three (or, of course, reduced to three in the course of battle). There is a specific prohibition against embarking WG on to a Falcon.
