I've noticed that although smaller images, up to about half a page in size, look fine, larger ones like full page scans lose a lot of quality when displayed. If they're clicked and saved they're OK though.

What's the reason for that?

Attached images are resized to a maximum of 600 pixels wide, and there is a target file size when resizing which affects the quality of the generated image. Larger images need more compression to get closer to the target file size. Clicking on the attached image will always show the original upload in perfect quality. We do this for 2 reasons - firstly, so that there is a decent sized 'thumbnail' that saves people from having to download the full size image in most instances, and secondly so that users on slower connections can browse threads casually without having to wait for many MB of image to download. It works well in 95% of circumstances, but large images with lots of text and blocks of colour are the weak point.

thanks man.

So when I post my retro reviews I'll try and keep images at that size for readability.
