So, I have been trying to update my army and replacing all my old Cadian pewter heavy weapons with Steel Legion weapons. The RPGs, Heavy Bolters, and Lascannons were easy, and Mortars should just be an issue of finding six spare troopers to fill the slots. However there isn't really a good replacement for the Autocannons. Of course the easy way would be to just steal an Autocannon from the plastic Cadians and swiping a few Lascannon gunners and popping them behind the Autocannons. But I'd rather use some old parts to keep my new Cadians full of their weapon sections. So I have old pewter Cadian full Imperial Guard Headquarters weapons section of bitz to utilize, I'd rather not chop anything but suggestions are welcome.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

All you need to do is use the steel legion lascannon team but use the new cadian autocannon instead of the lascannon. fits like a charm.

Yes, I said that, but I don't want to lose my Cadian autocannon, then I would be stuck looking for one for them.

I dont get it, are you just replacing the actual weapons or the whole team? IF your replacing the whole team for a steel legion one then whats the problem in using the weapons from the cadians?

Failing that, just ebay the autocannon bits and use a lascannon steel legion team.

Unless i'm missing something...

Replacing the whole team. The old pewter teams use a dolly system, similiar to what the Russians used in the World Wars for their heavy machine guns. One Cadian sits on the dolly behind the weapon, the other stands by to reload. So just replacing the crews wouldn't work, besides, the old weapons are sort of silly looking, more Orky then Imperial.

As for selling and buying, as I just said, I do not want to do that. I would like to use the old pewter Cadian bits to try and make something new.

Simple really. Use the lascannon team and the lascannon. Just swap the barrel with an autocannon barrel that you order from GWs bitz service. Oh, if it wasn't for the fact that GW just canned that option...

No, but on a serious level, if you do have spare autocannon barrels it would be an easy and fitting conversion. Even more so if you have some kind of magazine/hopper instead of the battery for the cannon.

And extra Lascannons, which have had a price increase (GW, increase their prices? No, never!) and that would be too basic a conversion. I've like to utilize bits I currently have. I have the Steal Legion Lascannon gunner model, but not the Lascannons.

Using plasticard and tubing is acceptable too.
