Started playing Wolves back when they came out in 2nd, when cyclone missile launchers were all the rage, then switched toward primarily Guard at the end of 2nd-3rd-until the 4th ed mechanized nerf. Havent played in a few years, and I still love the Guard, but thinking of getting a tourney ready Wolves or BT style list viable for this years GT tourney season.

I also understand that the 'rules' we have seen for 5th arent completely hashed out, but the general changes to missions/scoring units/vehicle rules are probably close to final.

Anyway, had a few questions and would appreciate getting some opinions on:

1) Are wolves somewhat viable in GT style lists anymore (if ever) for 5th, assuming a 1750 or 1850 GT points value? If not, why? (Looking for actual feedback, please dont post the pointless chest beating/ego stoking "No, Im the best general ever and they suck." comments with no actual reasoning ive seen in the past few months)

2) Assuming they are viable, what would a viable list look like for 5th?
Since only Grey Hunters and Blood Claws as scoring units, 2ish maxed Blood Claw packs covered by a rune priest's power running midfield with 3-4 Grey hunter packs podding in seems reasonable with the run change.

3) How would you go about using the heavy/elite slots to get some ranged firepower/lascannons?

4) My old Wolves codex still lists whirlwinds at 75 points. I did not see price changes in the online FAQ specifically for Whirlwinds, would they still be 75 points (and thus use Wolves codex prices, but C : SM rules?)
a) If i use Preds/etc from the links to C : SM, can I purchase extra armor at the C : SW prices?

5) It seems Kill Points are a step in the wrong direction, and if implemented will probably go away in the next edition (ex escalation), but that is another issue entirely. Q) Have the Kill Points rules been cleared up somewhere I did not previously read? IE, If i get a Wolf Guard in say, 3 different Blood Claw Packs, do they count as 2 Kill points each, do they count as 2 KP if all 3 Wolf Guard are killed, or do they simply count as a unit champion and thus an opponent is only awarded 1 KP for killing the Blood Claw Pack the WG is in?

6) I understand that the new C : SM will come out in October and thus pre Balt GT. Is there any news on the horizon for a C : SW in the immediate future, or a WD update?

7) Should I not even bother with Wolves and just play Black Templars?

Appreciate the help.

My two cents:

Drop Pod armies are all the rage. Grey hunters and blood claws lend themselves to this tactic. For grey hunters take to special weapons a sargent with combibolter/powerfist and rain down death when you pop out. Your grey hunters can serve as anti tank in this fashion if your lucky.

Long Fangs are way over priced.

Be careful choosing HQ's in 1500 points I think your required to take 3? Venerable dreadnoughts and wolf guard battle leaders are good buys.

Wolf scouts are always nice.

Space wold terminators give me a headache. I wish they would simplify that entry.

BT are nice, but it's hard to make a definitive call with the SW dex looming around the corner.
