Under the couch

In an attempt to lift my interest in 40K again, I figured it was time to update my Orks a little, both to bring them in line with the new codex (there's a couple of units that need a little shuffling and reworking) and to give me some more toys to play with...

So, first step is to build up the models that I want to add, and then once I've gotten sick of building stuff, I'll go on a painting blitz.

First cab off the rank: Big Gunz!

I hate the GW models. Not because they're bad models... they're actually pretty good. But just because they're all the same. And, I'm on a budget, so will be building as much as possible for this army from what I have laying around. So, I decided to build my own kannons.

Here's where they're at (with stand-in crew for the moment):

The guns themselves are mostly the same (to allow for easy identification on the table), although I was deliberately not too picky about getting the dimensions exact for each of them, and they each have their own patches and detailing. But I wanted each of the carraiges to be unique...

They still need a little gap filling, and I'll probably wind up adding a few extra patches and dings here and there. And of course, I need to build the crew (more Night Goblins) ... their parts are sitting on the table waiting for their clean up.

As always, comments and criticisms welcome.

More to come when I find some more spare time...

They look great! I like the uniform gun/non-uniform chassis style. I'm especially fond of the front wheeled 'wheelbarrow' style frame, I can see a handful of grots under fire, trying to push the whole rig to a new firing position. Great stuff!

love the 'wheelbarrow' mounting on the middle one. Do another one with the crew pushing it along

the wheels look a bit flimsy, and the guns don't look quite orky enough (but a little superdetailing would fix that) - otherwise great

They're basically just made up from various assorted sizes of plastic tubing. The tubing is made so that each size fits neatly inside the next size up, so it all fits together nicely for this sort of job.

sudden alarming mental image of a pile of runts/grots rolled up into a wheel shape and wrapped around the axle as a Mek cheerfully boasts about having just invented 'suspenshun'

But seriously, a gun being moved around on the shoulders of dozens of sweating grots (or squigs?) - a la Palanquin of Nurgle - would also be very cute

Your plastic work is beautiful, I really dig the genius of it all. Though, not orky enough for my taste, they just look too stream-lines and wwii-artiliary-ish for orks.

Threw together the crew models for these last night... They still need some green stuff work (need to fill a few gaps and replace some fingers) but you should be able to get the basic idea...

Still deciding whether or not to give them a Runtherd. Might wait and see how the rest of the list comes together.

It's a telescope. The angle of the pic's a little dodgy, but it is held up to his eye. That took a surprising amount of work...

Might I suggest putting small plow like recoil mechanisms at the ends of the legs. Not 100% sure what they're called, I just know the function x.x. Here's a reference of what I mean ^_^:

Sorry, just an ex-Arty guy x.x The details make the difference ^_^.

The more I scratchbuild myself, the more respect I have for other people's scratchbuild projects - particularly ones with lots of nice little fiddly bitz and gubbins. These are terrific models - can't wait to see more of them.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack
