Okay, here is a very complex situation, that I'm going to break down.

The ork stompa (both variaties) have 20 transport capacity and 2 fire points. So, as some people might know, if you utilize a fire point with a model with worse than 3+ armor, the vehicle counts as open topped the next turn for taking damage.

So, first thing, that I think I know, is that will an "open topped" stompa get +1 to damage results to it (say if a ork boy with a rockit shot out of it). I think the answer is yes, but I'm not 100% possitive.

Now to more complex things.

If I put a zapp gun in there, what happens when it shoots out (assuming the stompa stayed still).
1) Does it need 2 fire points or 1, because the crew needs to have line of sight.
2) If it only needs one fire point, will the stompa count as open topped next turn for taking damage?

Now, how about a deffdred in there?

If it fires out (with both weapons from 1 fire point, I think thats legal), does the stompa count as open topped for the next turn for damage purposes?

Thanks

I dont have the rules for stompa so I cant really answer the stompa specific stuff however I can answer the fire point question.

According to the rules the entire unit in a vehicle must have 3+ or better save to not count as open topped.

Thus if you stick in a unit of boyz and have a warlord in mega armour with them you can not have the warboss shoot out and still be non open topped.

As for how many weapons can fire out of the same fire point... there is actually a bit of a debate on this, the main rules state that one or more models can fire out of a fire point.
This would suggest that in theory all the models can infact fire out of each point however its seems likelly that when those rules were written the intention was that in each codex information would be included as to how many can use each point

IG states that one model can fire out of top hatch of chimera, SM Rhino hatch can be used by two, chaos Rhino fire point entry reads Fire point - 1 but does not describe how many can use it and the ork codex has no number for how many fire points hard case vehicles have but have it written out in text under the entry, incidently a battlewagon with hard case has two to each side.

In short... its a bit of a mess as GW have not to my knowledge specified, my advice would be to count each fire point as alowing one model to fire unless it specifically states otherwise.

I see no reason they wouldn't follow the normal rules in this case. So yes.

Nothing, because it can't.

There are no rules that allow anything other than Infantry to fire from a vehicle.

Now, how about a deffdred in there?

Likewise.

Not actually the case.

Rulebook, page 64: "Infantry firing from Vehicles"
"If passengers fire from a closed vehicle and any of them do not have a Saving throw of 2+ or 3+..."

'Them' in that sentence refers to 'passengers who fired from the vehicle'... not 'all passengers'

While I agree that there is an interpretation issue here I actually had not even considered that your interpretation even existed.

As english is not my first language (and I never was much of a garmar buff) I can not say if you are right or not.

I will however continue to interpret the rules as I do now as to me that makes more sense.

If you open a hatch you will not be able to coder 100% of the hatch with your bulk even if you wanted to and thus any passengers in the vehicle having less than 3+ save will cause the model to count as open topped.

Has this by any chance been FAQed or are there any tournament rulings on the subject?

I can't do it myself, because I'm at work & my books are not, but I'd suggest looking at the Apoc book.

I have a hard time believing that a gigantic, "Super heavy" ork Stompa is now, suddenly, open topped because Gorfungle and Bragdabbit decided to open a couple port holes & shoot their guns out of them.

It seems reasonable to me that a Super heavy would be an exception to that particular rule.

Again... that is all OPINION, I do not have my books with me.
