A friend of mine recently recommended that I give my Jump Pack Chaplain a Powerfist and Adamantine Mantle. Has anyone played this? Is it worth the cost?

Power fist so that IF he gets charged by something large and nasty (wraithlord, carnifex, etc) then he has a chance against hurting it.

The mantle is the defense against the large and nasty things killing him with one failed save.

Is it worth it? Yes...is it required? No

it's totally worth it since you are getting a 4+ save and power weapon as well for no additional cost. Plus litanies of hate combined with a powerfist equals dead characters. Other than MC's and HQ's with a Toughness of 5, there isn't much that he can't wreck. The other option is to put him on a bike which make him a badass as well.

yeah a jump pack chappy with a fist (or Thunderhammer) rocks the house. mount him on a bike like Karuthers said with a hammer and he just wrecks any MC apart from a Hive tyrant with implant attack, or a greater deamon with an invul save.

Built that way he averages one dead MC per charge. against a shooty MC like a dakka or sniper fex he only takes an average of .5 wounds in return. The bike makes him fast enough to get anywhere and the hammer allows him to hurt vehicles too, or you strike at In5 with a power weapon.

I use one a lot and i love him. The other sweet set up is a chappy with claws and a jump pack. He kills 5 MEQ's on the charge, its brutal.

If you give him a power fist, you need to be careful when you use it. If he goes into combat along side another friendly unit and he goes last, a good opponent will pull all the casualties your normal guys do out from base to base with the Chaplin making it so that he doesn't get to swing. Now you can always opt to use his power weapon instead of the fist (in which case the fist just functions as a second close combat weapon) but you need to make that decision when it reaches his initiative segment.

All in all however, the power fist allows him to go after targets that would be immune to his attacks (or nearly so) otherwise. Monstrous creatures, tanks, and independent characters will all be in for a hurting if he gets too close.

I am quite fond of my Chappy with Claws and Jump Pack. Rerolling everything on the charge is a great time.

I am thinking of taking the Chappy on a bike I have and putting a thunderhammer on him too. Just seems like too much fun to pass up, even if it is a giant pile of points.

Alright, well I had a powerfist lying around, so I just popped it on the jump pack chaplain. I'm looking forward to playing him.

He's worth it... IF you attach him to a squad of Assault Marines.

My Ultramarines almost never go to war without a Chaplain. I use him with either a jump pack, or a bike 99% of the time. More often than not though, I put him on a bike so he can roll with the plenty of bikers I almost always field. I can't begin to describe how many games where that one model was the difference between victory and defeat. Never tried giving him a power fist though, however, I can see the plus side of doing such.

Reecius thunder hammers are for models in terminator armor only. i have to agree that the powerfist and Adamantine mantle is nasty but not worth the extra points in my mind, i'd just take em' with bare bones equipment, and a jump pack, or termie armor, and storm bolter. that's really bout all you need. other points can go towards more troops and special weapons

Think someone already pointed it out, just position him well or he will end up touching noone(when pepole remove casualties around him from his assult squad) and not getting to hit with that nice p-fist.

The only Codex SM armoury item that is for "models in Terminator armour only" as far as I know is the chainfist.

Wrong, check your codex.

I play mainly marines, and I always like to keep my HQs as cheap as possible (in this edition, anyways). My favorite is the cheap 107 pt chappy. Making them more expensive just doesn't seem to make them that much more deadly.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

it's a good if expensive combo, especially with the re-rolls and the 4++ invulnerable save. I would add in terminator honours too, if that is still a codex option.

imo a JP Chaplain's best use is to go with a full squad of Assault Marines so you put those re-rolls to good use. You can probably come up with better ways to kill dreads etc.

But it's good insurance on an already expensive/ useful model.

So last night I played my Power Fisted, Jump Packed, Mantled Chaplain for the first time and my conclusion is that he is a Monstrous Creature SLAYER.

Seriously, I was playing a 1500 Point Game Against my friend's Zilla Nids and in three turns he single handedly took out a 2+ Dakka Flyrant, Zoanthrope, and 2+ Gun Fex. He would have killed himself a second Gun Fex, but the game ended. It was pretty impressive.

My friend's reaction was "whoa, that guy's pretty good."

I run a bike chappy (MOS) with a power fist and AD.Mantel. He smokes Dreads for fun. Let him ride behind a large squad of bikes to act as cover for his IC status and he is very safe.

I just wish I could get powerfist in my black templar bike squads. Then that would be fantastic.
