Subject: Can a Force Weapon kill someone who is immune to instant death?

Longtime Dakkanaut
Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I was playing a game at an RTT last Saturday and I was thinking about throwing my GK Grandmaster against Ghazghkull.
Ghazghkull is immune to instant death, and in the force weapon entry it does not say 'instant death', it says 'kills them outright’.
The Yakfaq did not have anything about it, so I will ask, does instant death=kills them outright?

No.
Instant Death is a specific effect that involves comparing the weapon's Strength with the model's Toughness.
For a weapon or effect to cause Instant Death, it therefore must have a high enough Strength, or have a specific rule that says that it causes Instant Death.
The end result may be the same, but killing them outright is not the same effect as Instant Death.

Answered your question, although I think (I may be wrong!?!) you were asking if Ghazghkul was immune to the Force Weapon death effect?
As far as RAW is concerned,P46 Main Rules, unless he is immune to Force weapon attacks, he's toast. He still gets his invun save, and said psyker needs to have wounded him, and blah blah...

They are definitely two different things, and this is even acknowledged by GW in the Apocalypse rules for Gargantuan creatures where it gives them one rule for instant death weapons and other rule for weapons that simply remove models from the table (and they refer to force weapons as an example).
So yes, Ghaz can be killed by a force weapon.

Like have been said instant death is not the same as a force weapon effect and thus models imune to instant death are not imune to weapons like force weapons.

Unfortunately, in 5th edition a Force Weapon will cause instant death. So in 5th he'll be immune.
