I was reading a white dwarf issue from 2005 and they had a section on dark eldar tactics, but most importantly he suggested running a dracon on a reaver jetbike with a punisher and tormenter helm claiming that jetbikes could now take 2h weapons. have I missed something or can you not field that? Just wondering cause Army Builder wont let me do it.

This is another rule I've seen ruled more than one way at different places. As best I can tell all bikes now are limited to one weapon, but it may be a two-handed weapon. The WD article was definitely written under a different rules edition. I'm not aware of anything that prevents you from doing it now. Maybe someone else can come up with something more accurate.

The Tormenter helm is a piece of wargear that counts as using a splinter pistol and it can be used even if the model is using both his hands for something else.
So yes, a Tormenter helm could be used when riding a Reaver Jetbike to gain +1 Attack (along with a single-handed weapon).
I'm not sure why AB doesn't allow it, but the program isn't infallible.

I think Dark Eldar jetbikes are the last ones left requiring both hands to use.
The item in question: Punisher, is 2-handed. So no go for Dark Eldar jetbikes.
You will however get the bonus attack from the tormentor helm while using an agonizer (1-h)

The Tormentor Helm does not free up the extra hand though, just gives you the benefit of the pistol as an extra CC weapon. That still leaves you without the necessary two free hands to wield the Punisher. So you are correct, but Army Builder is still also correct in not allowing the punisher to be fielded on a jetbike, even if the wearer also possesses the Helm.

There was a time when DE could use 2H weapons on jetbikes.
That FAQ ruling was reversed.
So now you cannot.
Anyone worth their salt doesn't run DE characters on jetbikes anyway. Waste of valuable wargear points.

Stelek,
Do you even play Dark Eldar???? Mounting an Archon/Dracon on a Jetbike is the BEST way to field them. I get 100 points for Wargear: 25 for combat drugs, 25 for Shadowfield, 35 for Jetbike, 5 for tormentor helm, 2 for plasma grenades. What other wargear does he need exactly?

I've played DE since they came out.
You can say it's the best, but it really isn't.
Especially in today's 40k.
To get +1 T and +1 save plus the 24" boost (dubious at best) you give up:
All 2 handed weapons.
Cheaper points costs for 1 hander weapons.
Ability to put him on a transport.
Ability to assault 12".
Ability to fleet.
So since my Archon is a suicide assault unit, let me count the superiority:
Mine costs less.
Mine assaults 12".
Mine fleets D6".
Mine comes in off a transport (usually through the webway) so I should be 15" in at a minimum when I do deploy.
So my effective assault range is:
12" deployment zone, 3" blast template (the portal), 12" transport move, 2.99" deploy off said transport, 1" - 6" fleet, plus my combat drug assault move of 12".
This compares to your rather pathetic assault range of 12" + 6" (you know, slow ass jump pack movement).
So...18" versus 39.99"-45.99".
Who doesn't play Dark Eldar again?
Oh, did you mean CORRECTLY?
Yes, I do. You apparently don't because assaulting a yard plus is somehow worth +1T.
And being vulnerable the entire time.
And before you go 'but but I use a webway portal too!' please note people can sit back inside their deployment zone and you *still* can't reach them with a jetbike HQ.
If you are fleeting or using the 12" assault on a jetbike, you're cheating. Just in case you didn't know.

Been Around the Block

I've been lurking on these boards for the last week or two, seen a lot of crazy rules debates, rarely any rule issue truly resolved, but one thing has always been made clear -
Stelek can't stop from being condescending. Try being the bigger man just once. Or go buy yourself the Penny Arcade shirt that shows the equation about normal person + anonymity + audience = immense pain in the kiester. Even when you're right, or make a great point, like in your latest post, no one wants to listen to you because of your attitude. It's okay to not take something personally.
/off topic
As for the original point by AbV, the tactics sections are alright reads in WD but always take their army and unit selections with a grain of salt. They're great for giving someone who doesn't know much about the army a feel for the force but they're rarely 100% accurate. Oftentimes the tactics articles are written or published before the official codex even hits, though I can't remember if that's the case for the DE book after its last rewrite and that '05 article.

Stelek:
No I don't fleet or assault 12" with my Archon. I do however have the ability to move 24" to respond to any threat and still be screened by any troops in front of me. I've played DE since they came out and last year I switched to a bike mounted Archon. And guess what, he's freakin awesome and so much better than the foot mounted variety. Also guess what, a lot of people agree with me so please stop the "nobody worth their salt..." BS. I will say that if you are using an Archite/Dracite, on foot supporting Wyches is the place to be but for the 'on variety of HQ, the jetbike is fantastic.
Seriously, if we want to continue this (and I don't cause you'll just get more annoying), we can move to the tactics thread.

1. Personal insult by Stelek (you can't veil it behind "anyone worth their salt doesn't...").
2. Antagonistic posts by Stelek, Ozymandias
3. Off-topic (although amusing) post by Moz (and slightly inaccurate; Stelek does post a name and phone number in his profile).

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP
