Ran into this the other night and we couldn't seem to locate a firm answer to the problem in the books.

How are vehicle squadrons effected by shaken/stunned/imbolized results?

For example;
Squad of 3 walkers, 1 suffers an immobilized hit. Is the entire squad immobilized? or can the other 2 break appart and move? do they have to stay in coherencey with the stuck walker?

Same squad of 3, 1 suffers a stunned/shaken and can't move/shoot. Can the other 2 walkers move? As long as they are in coherency? Can the other 2 shoot?

Do the effects of damage results impact the whole squad? or the individual model?

We played it from the viewpoint that, if they are immobilized, then then they can move on. If one is shaken//stunned, the squad can move about but must stay within coherency and those not effected can shoot as normal. This seems logical, but neither of us found anything to support it.

Did we miss something? TIA

Damage affects the individual model. The mobile models may move and may choose to abandon the stuck model by leaving coherency with it. Abandoned model is counted as destroyed.

Even if it's imobilized and can still fire? or if it is just shaken/stunned and can't move for that turn?
The abandoned model just dies?

Just seems odd, but that may be to prevent players from splitting a single HW or FA slot into multiple slots.

As Moz said once a vehicle is abandoned it counts as being destroyed. By RAW this means that it will be treated as a wreck in that event.

The Rules are not that clear but this is the best RAW interpretation of it.

Exactly.

Vero, if one is just Stunned, there's nothing keeping the other squad members from staying in coherency with their buddy until he recovers.

If he's Immobilized, then they have the hard choice to stick with him or take off (in which case the vehicle counts as dead- basically the driver bails when he's abandoned)

Vehicle squads are a bit odd but I agree with the others, the rules state that you may abandon a member of a vehicle unit, if you do the vehicle abandoned is considered destroyed.

If you however remain in coherency then there is no problem, remember that vehicle units have a 4" coherency range and thus if a model is only shaken or stunned then you can string out the unit to give the temporarily disabled unit a chance to recover.

It could be argued that if you choose to remain in coherency, the other vehicles can't actually move.

A unit moves at the speed of its slowest model (Rulebook, page 15).

So if one model can not move, the rest of the unit would be unable to move, as they can not move faster than the un-moving model.

Which would mean that if a vehicle in a Squadron is immobilised temproarily, the rest of the squadron would have only two options: stay still, or abandon it.

Something I would like to suggest for a friendly game that would incorperate RAW & be a bit of a compromise & let both sides save face. Let the non-moving vehicle stay put & let the other models move, but must stay in unit coherency. The reasoning is the others in the squaderon are providing cover till the broke one gets back up & running.

That's actually how I suspect the majority of players would already play it. I know it's how I've been playing it all along.

I think the rule as it stands blows. Makes a 3 strong LS squad seem a lot more disposable....

Pity that.

Unfortunately, we play the RAW in our club as far as this rule is concerned.

I think that's fine by RAW still.

As per P.73:
"When a squadron of vehicles moves, all mobile squadron members have to move at the same speed"

Emphasis mine and stuff. This overrides the standard P.15 rule.

It doesn't specifically over-ride it, since it could be applied specifically to those vehicles abandoning an immobile companion... they're still allowed to move away, after all, and would still have to do so at the same rate.

It's close enough for me, though.

Good point, I will have to look into that.

Good point too, worth some pondering.

I will return when I have read through the passages and pondered it a bit.

thats how we play it in our group as well. if one of the units gets stunned and can't move for a turn.the others can still move around it as long as they stay in coherency. still sucks for the stunned unit though.

Thanks for that clarification, sounds like we will need to overview the rules on that and see if we want to house anything there.

We both must have missed the vehicle squad rule part.
