Hi, I'm a new manufacturer of wargaming models, both historical 15mm models as well as fantasy and sci-fi 28mm (and any other scale that strikes my fancy). The Sci-Fi and Fantasy models will be released under the label The Thing in the Crate.
Just wanted to drop in to see what the discriminating 40k player is up to and what in particular you are looking for.
I think many manufacturers just play a guessing game when it comes to the desires of the gamers, and I'd like to be a bit more proactive, supplying what you want rather than what I think you might want. Thanks and I'm sure I'll enjoy being a member here.

Welcome to dakka! One glaring gap in the market (thanks to a certain major manufacturer) now seems to be bits and components for 28mm miniatures. There are some good head suppliers (alternate heads for imperial guard troops for instance), but there is always room for more, as well as other parts of bodies, weapons and different races.

Thanks legoburner. One issue with making parts for the models of other people is that you are not making a standalone product, so your line rises and falls with that of the other company -- like if I make those heads you are referring to and the company then supplies heads in a different way so that my heads are no longer viable as add-ons.
It also could be argued that, by making pieces specifically to work with their products, that I am violating their copyright, and I don't want to do that.
Pig Iron makes some nice heads and equipment, by the way -- never checked to see if they work with GW products, but they might. I think they make gear add-ons too.
I'm looking more for whole item suggestions -- like for instance if there's some kind of great beast or swarm critter in the game, but GW/Privateer/Whoever does not make models for their, or their models are awful, or people just want a choice, that's were I could use the suggestions.
Cheers!

An option for the Dwarven Lord's shield bearers would be nice. I just don't like the look of the GW ones. They are supposed to be taking part in the fight not just holding the shield up.
I was thinking maybe something along the lines of a new-fangled dwarven engineering device that is like a linked backpack/harness or something that the bearers are wearing while fighting with their lord standing on the shield above them would fit in and look cool. Or at the very least have the bearers in some dynamic pose with their weapons in hand or in mid attack or gesturing or something other than just holding the shield up and grimacing.
Thats one of my missing models

Welcome to Dakka Khurasan...
What I'd love to see -
Well sculpted sci-Fi alien races that could be used for other game systems...Something that would allow the owner to really stand out on the battlefield...
Space Lizardmen, for instance (not that I'm biased, mind You...heh)...
GW doesn't have sci-fi reptiles copywritten or trademarked...
If You'd be interested in any conceptual designs for some of Your ideas, throw me a shout over PM...

khurasan_miniatures -Welcome!!!
I for one would like to replace all of my Jump-pack Marines with 'Raptor Riders'.
If you could make Sci-fi mounts, that would ROCK! I would buy 30 at least!!!!
Also, is there 'IP' on Zoats, Jokareo ?
Also, Tech-priests/Titan 'Crew'.
Also, 'Vehicle plates'-Damaged, console, etc.
Soory for the length of the list, but you asked lol!!!
