Hey everybody, Ive been toying around with the idea of drop troops. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas the way this would look model and paint wise , I dont think tanks would be all that common, so I believe that sentinels and heavy weapon platoons would fit in nicely. Let me know what you guys think!

Try using these heads on Cadian Bodies:

HD.6 H. INF. VISORED HELMET SPRUES

I've been thinking about them along with FW drop-troop jump-pack things.

These West Wind British paratrooper heads with berets look really good on SM Scout bodies:

I've been thinking about using them for drop troops. Check out this post from George Spiggott who did it first:

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

These are what I did to represent a drop troop force:

and this guy:

They are made up of Marine Scout legs and heads with Cadian Torso's and arms and the silencers are off of the Marine Sniper rifles...

As far as a paint scheme I am torn between the typical Cadian color scheme or I might go for Tan pants/shirt with black body armor...any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

I have a total of three squads of these guys made so far...plus I was waiting to see what the new guard codex has in store. With all the talk of plastic Valkyries and the possibility of them being added as a viable transport option for the imperial guard, I didn't want to go nuts!

Thanks,
Chappy P!

It's funny, I was just thinking of using Scouts for Stormtroopers (I'd have to cook up Hellguns somehow and they would need proper Helmets) but I wasn't sure how they would look. Question answered. Thanks!

Some may have seen these before. Scouts make excellent drop troops IMO. Especially now they come in plastic and West wind and Pig iron produce separate heads.

i know that most people don't wanna shell out a load of cash for these forgeworld minis, but i just painted this up for fun...
the scheme is nice and simple, and hopefuly someone will take it and run with it over a whole army...
please to enjoy...

cheers

Consider your scheme taken! (if thats alright) I didnt notice the similarity between the elysian kneepads and the tau shoulder pads until now, I wonder if there is a way to exploit this? I think I will just do the firewarrior/cadian conversion for the end effect, I like the kneeling shooting thing going on there. Now to get some fire warrior legs!

George, man, you know I love those models! And Jah, that's an incredible paint job on that Elysian - very sweet! If I could afford the Elysians, I would, but as I can't I'm probably going to go George's route for my drop troops.

Skavenfreak - there is a way to exploit it. If you do a search through the Modeling and Painting forum, there's a guy who's converted up a bunch of Elysians using Firewarrior legs and Catachan boots - very cool stuff if you can find it. Here we go - check out the bad boys here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/206815.page#229384

With the blacks looking that good? I don't think so. Those are well-used inks, I think.

I remember viewing a conversion that used the jetpacks at hassle free minis, anybody else remeber that?

Don't forget that Drop Troops includes the less common underground tunnelers, so instead of packs and chutes you could also model the tip of a tunneler to place next to your guys when they pop out, or have one guy on a base with the tunneler exit door.

them's fightin' words bro...i've never dipped a mini in my life...

so let's see if i can remember what i did use on this guy...the paintjob is a few years old now...

i think that the jumpsuit is catachan green, with a bit of black mixed in for the basecoat...a very dilute black wash over that...
then a straight coat of catachan green, and camo green highlights???

the armour is codex grey with a bit of black mixed in, and then straight codex highlights...

the visor is the old metallic blue mixed with mithril...

the blacks are black(genius!!!), and straight codex grey highlights...

the whites are black, layer of codex grey, layer of fortress grey, layer of white...

the bright greens are dark angels green, then snot green, then a bit of scorpion green...

reads are red gore, layered over with blood red...

that should be it...not a lot of mixin'...just the jumpsuit and the armour...i like to keep things as simle as possible, and just concentrate on neatness...of course now i look close at the pics, i can see that the holster and the front of the bolt pistol need a little clean up on the highlight lines...woops...

cheers
