The sink.

If a warlock engineer casts Warp Lightning and then discovers he is out of range, does he still have to roll to see if he wounds himself?

Also, with warplock pistols, if I'm out of range do I still need to roll to see if I hit myself?

Yes he has cast the spell succesfully so suffers all caonsequenses of said spell. Same as miscast they also apply even if the target is out of range.

Yes, the weapon is still fired, so it's rules apply.

Think of it this way- if an Empire gunnery line guessed very short on their mortar shot at your skaven blocks, you'd still want to see if he misfired, right?

Arisos has it correct.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

You work out casting a spell (including miscasts or caster wounding himself) before measuring the range.

Same principle applies for shooting.

in my group we prefer to play by the rules as stated on page 110 for magic missiles and don't allow the skaven player to cast at an invalid target. invalid because its out of range.

When I'm in power, here's how I'm gonna put the country back on its feet. I'm going to put sterilizing agents in the following products: Sunny Delight, Mountain Dew, and Thick-Crust Pizza. Only the 'tardiest of the 'tards like the thick crust.

An interesting notion, since nothing about magic missles on p. 110 mentions range. It says that the same rules apply to targets of magic missles that apply to targets of normal shooting. The shooting rules for range on p.26 say that if your declared target turns out to be out of range, all your shots automaticaly miss. It doesn't say to choose another target if your first choice is too far away.

If he can draw line of sight to it, it's a valid target. In range or out is an entirely different question.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.
