so im not very experienced with 40k as i just started again after a 5 year hiatus. locally we are having some small tournaments and i know i am going to be facing some really tough tau and space marine armies. there are also a number of new ork players, fancy that since the new dex just came out. anyways i have been getting into a lot of trouble with tau so rather than play armies that are middle of the road i am trying to put a little emphasis on using an army that will excel at killing tau and be ok against the rest of my foes. like i said i havent played in about 5 years and i am just dusting off my forge world drop pod, of course there are rumor of new plastic ones so i wasted a ton of money but whatever, i like the model though i have never used it, this will be my first attempt with both tigurious and a DP.

speeder w/ HB and AC
4 Bikers led by Vet sgt w/ fist, 2 Flamers and teleport homer

5 terminator w/ 2 AC

2x5 marine Las Plas combo with Vet sgt w/ fist.

5 dev marines w/ vet sgt with fist, and 2 HB
5 Dev marines w/ 2 ML and Vet sgt with fist.

like i said i am returning to the scene after a failed marriage. she hated gaming. i love it. thats why i am back. my list may be way off but i trust some of you will be able to give me some pointers. do i have to many powerfist. should i trade them all in for a master commander. i would like to keep the bikes so i can scoot out and drop a teleport homer amongst the enemy lines, drawing in the terminator but the emperor only knows if this will work. i would appreciate any help you can give me. thanks.

i am that which is stuck to your shoe. dont scrape me off. chew me. i taste great.

Congratulations on losing the baggage and lightening the load. I can speak for myself about relationships and gaming, it ain't gonna work if a SO has hang-ups about gaming. Just not gonna work.

Your list is NOT far off at all.

tigerius = good
big marine squad with double plasma in a drop pod = good

bikes with a teleport homer = awesome

speeders = great until 5th ed.

5 termies with 2 acs = great especially with fast moving teleport homers

on the troop squads. unless points are impossible to find I'd switch to 6 man units. Probably don't need the fists there. they'll be hanging out way back.

the devs are solid, again probably don't need the fists. I wouldn't think you were crazy if you dropped all the fists. made all the marines 6 man and gave the devs max ML and max HB respectively

welcome home brother...

i appreciate the opinion on all of the above. SO have to be cool with your hobbies or else ...
so i revised the list and this is what came of it.

6 dev marines and 3 HB
6 Dev marines w/ 3ML .
i only really added the extra hb and extra ml devestator but the change in firepower is significant, at least on paper. great suggestion.
this is probably the list i will play since i will likely end up in melee with something nasty more than once and i would like to be able to hit back and hard. that said the fists with the tactical squads will be in front of the devestator squads and will supply some much needed punch. any other opinions would really be appreciated. i plan on playing this saturday at our local shop.

Well, I'd play a Tigurius army in different way:

Tigurius - 165
HQ squad (7 Maines w/ plasma (x2) + 1 Vet Serg w/ powerfist) - 200
Drop pod

Tactical squad (7 Marines w/ plasma + 1 Vet Serg w/ power fist) - 190
Drop pod

Tactical squad (7 Marines w/ plasma + 1 Vet Serg w/ power fist) - 190
Drop pod

Tactical squad (7 Marines w/ plasma + 1 Vet Serg w/ power fist) - 190
Drop pod

Tactical squad (7 Marines w/ plasma + 1 Vet Serg w/ power fist) - 190
Drop pod

5 Scouts w/ missile launcher - 75

Dreadnought w/ assault cannon, heavy flamer, armour - 150
Drop pod

Dreadnought w/ assault cannon, heavy flamer, armour - 150
Drop pod

Total: 1500 pts.

i think the second list looks better than the first. i play an all drop pods army sometimes and it works out great for tau. against hordes like the new ork dex or nids you could run into some major trouble.

do you not like the fact that it has so many stationary units. i was actually thinking of changing it up a little. maybe dropping the heavy bolters because i already have so much anti swarm, and adding more heavy stuff like ML. i could drop out one bike , soup up the devistators and the terminators and the list would look like this...

why dont you add two flamers to the drop pod command squad, or at least one, that way you have some anti swarm capability. i know i have used a pod army and being able to drop templates really helped against a nids swarm. i still lost though.
