First, a couple disclaimers:

1) There is no actual list here. There are the vague outlines of one, but exact models don't appear, as I haven't a clue as to exact points.

2) I haven't played Fantasy since 6th edition.

3) The tournament in question a) allows SoC Daemonic Legion; and b) has some interesting rules, whereby the winners of each round continue with their remaining army to the next round, damage and all (single-use items reset). As such, survivability is somewhat important. I think Slaaneshi daemons (with their speed) can substitute "avoidance" for "survivability," at least against some opponents.

Proposed list outline:

Bel'akor the eternally cheesey.

Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (Lv 4 wizard, Spellbreaker, and probably an ether blade, IIRC)

Herald (BSB, Spellbreaker) in a chariot

Big block of daemonettes (24-ish)

2x smaller blocks of daemonettes (12-18 or so, depending on points)

2x 4xPleasureseekers (I recall these being lovely)

2x(3x?) 6xMounted daemonettes

Maybe another Chariot of Slaanesh.

It's fast, it has Eternal Terror, it's fast, Bel'akor provides bonus resilience against shooting, it's fast, it has some decent magic, and it's fast. The daemonic legion of Daemonettes are more resilient than their HoC counterparts, which should help. Whole units going "pop" would seriously hinder my chances of success, but I'm largelly looking for fun.

So, some questions:
1) Within the constraints of the tournament, should I revise the army? I'm somewhat model-constrained (I use the 5th ed crab-clawed ladies, with the old Fiends remodeled and standing in as Pleasureseekers), but I can probably tweak things a bit in the remaining time.

2) What should I watch out for? What will cause me the most pain?

3) What ARE the dominant armies in WHFB now? Does the Royal Air Force still dominate? Are Wood Elves and their singing, dancing trees an issue? What should I know about Dwarven anvils? Are the Vampire Counts going to win, just by constanting ADDING units over the course of the tourney?

As the tournament rules are a bit bizarre, I really can't think anything too conclusive as an advice. Nevertheless:

Taking Keeper of Secrets instead of the daemon prince is (kind of) bargain if you go magic heavy, as giving levels to daemon prince make him awfully expensive. Probably the most annoying things vs this list are small arms fire and magic missiles as most of your guys/gals have t3 and 5+ save. Especially the mounted daemonettes don't like this. Hopefully your speed will help here, but it's good to be mindful to the fact that one good bow/crossbow/etc. volley or a magic missile can cripple your unit. Altough normal daemonettes have more numbers they are relatively vulnerablo to this too. (Good idea to help you out would be to give the biggest deamonette unit a standard which improves their ws to 4 if that's possible).

I can't really tell what you'll see at the tourney as the point size and rules certainly mix things alot. But yeah, you might/will see anvils, treemens and vampire counts summoning stuff if either of those armies make appearance. I have to say that lots of armies have the possibility to make good builds in the 2k level. Can't see why this wouldn't be the case in 3k.

I've been pondering this today, and wondering if I shouldn't just scrap magic entirely. If I did that, it could look like this:

Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (Ether Blade, Soul Hunger, Diabolic Splendor) (General)

Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (or Exalted Daemon?) with stuff

Herald BSB of Slaanesh w/banner (Spellbreaker)

Herald of Slaanesh in a Chariot of Slaanesh (Spellbreaker)

18x Daemonettes

12x Daemonettes

12x Daemonettes

6x Mounted Daemonettes

6x Mounted Daemonettes

6x Mounted Daemonettes

3x Pleasureseekers

3x Pleasureseekers

Chariot of Slaanesh

I pick up an extra herald, more mounted daemonettes, and an extra chariot. I may be able to squeeze in lvl 1 on my two daemons (particularly if I take an Exalted Daemon in the second slot, instead of a second Prince).

I think you want the magic. Slaanesh lore can REALLY enhance your movement phase dominance, as well as acting as a bit of a shooting substitute (first two spells) and making you better in combat (second spell, fifth and sixth spells).

Also, if you have a way to work in more units of Pleasureseekers, do it. The big ogre-sized (in the new book they'll actually be ogre-sized; for now they're on 50mm square bases) cav units are about the best things in the DL list.

Also regarding Pleasureseekers, I really recommend the four model configuration. Go three wide with one in the back. That way you keep your hitting power longer in case your opponent shoots at them, and double your hitting power if he flanks you, since the back model slides over.

It's just that spell-chucking daemons are SO very expensive. I do love me some Slaaneshi goodness, but it's not cheap.

If I dump Bel'akor (*sniff*) in favor of a second normal daemon prince, I get some points back. Or I could take a Keeper of Secrets, in place of Bel....

Pleasureseekers are great, but I'm model-constrained. I'm trying to hunt down additional 5th ed Fiends of Slaanesh, but it's slow going.

Got any links for rumors on the new Daemon book, Ragnar? I've been curious how much will change.

Here's the other extreme, with maxed-out Slaaneshi magic:

Keeper of Secrets (general)

Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (MoS, lvl 4 wizard, Blade of the Ether, Diabolic Splendor, Soul Hunger)

Exalted Daemon (MoS, lvl 2 wizard, Soul Hunger, Spell Breaker)

20x Daemonettes, full command, unholy icon

12x Daemonettes, full command

6x Mounted Daemonettes

6x Mounted Daemonettes

3x Pleasureseekers

3x Pleasureseekers

1x Chariot of Slaanesh

12 power dice, 7 dispel, 1 "scroll". A whopping 58 models, and slightly over 50% spent on 3 characters. There's also no Herald in this list, which makes me a touch uncomfortable, but frees up the hero slot for the Exalted Daemon.

I can't see a way to bump up the Pleasureseekers, short of cutting core daemonettes down to minimums, and I'm not sanguine about trying pure MSU tactics with no-shooting Daemons. I could cut one unit of Pleasureseekers, bump the other to 4, and slip in a second Chariot....

Thoughts?

Regarding the last list (or any daemonic legion SoC list when they are still around before the new armybook), these guys certainly the herald around with them. I'd swap the exalted to him in a heartbeat and beef up the smaller units a bit with the leftover points. 2xlvl4 mages should be enough magic really, and you can give the scroll to herald.

Agreed. You need the herald for resiliency. If you do the swap, keeping the Herald in a chariot is also a good idea. up your flanking power for fast wins.

VC might really be a PITA if you're trying for survival. Hell, VC seem like the natural winners in any tourney like this. Maybe shooty Dwarves could rival them, but I wouldn't count on it.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Yeah, I fully expect a VC army to win the Devestation tournament. There is a rule in place that requires "new" units to pass a Ld check if they are to proceed to the next round, which means there is at least a chance a VC army will advance to the 2nd round BIGGER than it was in the first.

I'm hoping some dwarven gunline snipes every Vampire & Necromancer in the building, before some Fel Bats come and kill every dwarven cannon.

(I'm not planning on winning, just looking for some fun with my daemons before they get reworked by the new armybook.)
