r storm boyz any good? I've noticed that no one includes them in their army lists.

??? I thought they were one of the most popular units in the new codex. My only complaint about them is that I want to take lots of them as well as lots of bikes and warbuggies, and there's only 3 FA slots.

I'm strongly considering building 60, just as soon as I finish my Stompa project

Well, never mind that then... thanx. What's a good unit size for them?

As with any Ork unit, everything counts in large amounts. I'm aiming for a mob of 20 for starters, just as soon as I can find an affordable way. That's part of the reason people aren't using them: They're so expensive now that GW are selling them as a 'bitz kit'.

I know! I only have five and those are from the last edition where you could buy a box of boys and the metal bits in one containter. If I can find a good place to buy bitz in America I'm going to buy a bunch of legs because those always seem to be the limiting factor in the number of boyz you can make (there's always excess torsos heads and arms).

You'll be lucky. I'm guessing a lot of people have had the same idea!

I'm thinking it's time to just start looking for a different source of Rokkit packs.

If you look on ebay for old rockets and bombs from other model kits, or even just grab like a fighting falcon kit for 15-20$ you'll get a bunch of bombs and rockets you can use.

There are tons of kits to let you do this, fyi.

I run two mobs of 20 in almost all of my lists. That, plus two mobs of 15 lootas makes for an in your face and reach out and touch someone army combo.

I run 16- since there used to be eight in a box. They are, for me at least, hit or miss. But when they work out the storm boyz are uber-awesome.

If you're looking for bits I would suggest the SM or CSM jump packs. They look dang good.

Actually I just need boyz legs. I found some sb torsos and rockits. If I had some legs I could turn them into storm boyz.

finding or making the rokkit backpacks is indeed the other downside of stormboyz, along with the small selection of rokkits.

I'll be making all mine from looted marine jumppacks, and trying to make them all at least slightly different

a question about Stormboyz: I played an Ork player (old Codex) who had Zagstruk with his Stormboyz. Obviously, now they can assault 12" instead of just 6 if they take a Dangerous Terrain test. However, he claimed that was able to give them something that enabled them to infiltrate as well, which means I ended up with 3 of my units getting tied up in combat on turn 1. I've looked through the old Ork codex and can't find what he did to give them that ability.

Am I missing something, or did he slip one past me?

P.S. this ork player modelled his rockets out of toothpaste caps and styrene for the fins and then painted them. surprisingly, it looked pretty good...very orkish.

Um, well it is a good ability, but its not that...

Zagstruck can lead a mob of stormboyz in place of a nob. He then allows the skwad to deep strike (in fact, they need to). A skwad doing this is then allowed to assault after they deep strike. However, this has about a 1/2 chance of working, maybe less, so many people were going ohh, shiny over, it but now they are recognizing his faults.

Are Stormboyz Any good? yes if you like spending the money on them to began with. like many thing that happen everything is about trying to make your army better and more effective if you dont even do that they what hope do you have of being a good player. should anyone use them yes i say yes because they make up for the lack of hitting if you need a really bigger punch....

I made rokkits for my first mob out of pushpins, GS and plasticard for fins. The second mob I used wire connectors and a bit of GS.

Tactically they are very useful. I don't think they have made it through a game intact yet, which means I gave up 280 VPs. But they have tied up and killed a lot of stuff that could have done serious damage to the rest of the army. Plus with 20 of them, you can generally get a large combat that is blocking LOS.

The last game I played, I managed to surround a smoked rhino with a squad of CSM in it, popped it with deth koptas, and watched my opponent bemoan the fact that he forgot about the rokkit pack move... quite enjoyable.

Generally I only take one squad, but sometimes I take two, depends on what else is in the squad.

What? Zagstruk isn't even in the old codex. What is he talking about?

And no, he doesn't get Infiltrate but a variant of Deep Strike.

They don't assault 12", either! This player is taking advantage of you. Keep your wits about you.

For my storm boys I've converted burna packs into "rokkits" for my storm boyz... In this case they are sort of steam punk themed and called "Steam Boyz"
For anyone who has torsos and no legs, I know there are many of you, you can use plasticard or whatever you come up with to make a rokkit lower half... kinda like the mono wheel conversions that are sometimes popular. Those two conversion methods should save you a few dollars/pounds

I'll see what I can do. I am not quite satisfied with them yet but should be working on/finishing them today.

Boss Zagstruk and his Vulcha Boys are on page 42 of the old codex, in the Special Characters section. And yes, they can assault 12" if they take what 4th ed. would call a Dangerous Terrain test.

No worries. You were right, though, he does have a variant of Deep Strike in the NEW codex. And I still haven't figured out how this guy got him to infiltrate. Maybe I should just ask him.

If there was a mistake made, I'm sure it was unintentional....even if it did cost me a squad of Destroyers, over half a squad of Warriors, and all of my scarabs......basically the game. Sneaky orkses.

no, shade3413 means using the burna backpacks, sticking some sort of rocket cone on top and an exhaust below, to make cheap rokkit back packs.

Hell yes! Stormboys are awesome...
Fastest assault unit in the game, use their 13-18 inch move to hide behind terrain, then charge next turn! Nothing can hide from them

Used them last night to first turn charge 8 Death Company + Lemartes (they went first), Ok the Boys died but not before the nob killed the chappie and all but one DC.

Thats why I would never take ZagStruk - no first turn charges & no enduring klaw - winning rounds of combat after the charge turn is really hard without a klaw.

**BTW Old Codex Nazdreg allowed a Troop or Elite unit to Infiltrate... ZagStruk and Da Vulchaz were an Elite unit

Thanks. I saw this and was thinking about it, but it's kind of a rip off isn't it? For $22 you can get 10 boyz and a nob (so 11 boyz to make it easy) that's about $2 a boy plus all the extra bitz. On the site its $7 for 5 legs about $1.40 per leg.
I'll think about it though since it's still cheaper than $2 per leg.

Has anyone purchased from that store, and have anything to say about the service ect.?

Well here is a pic of my first Stormboy conversion using the burna packs. I kept it simple with no green stuff or pasticard on this one to show it can be done with stock materials.

Its not half bad I think.

Yes there are plenty of lines to clean up but that'll get done soon.

As for the suggestion on leg replacement I would have a pic of that if my plasticard would co-operate not sure how I will do it yet. Pretty much I just want to make it look like a rocket is attached to the torso and he would "hover" instead of walk.
