Am I reading that first mission right that you can put your opponent in a deployment zone where any movement causes a no save wound on a 6?

Looks like it. The die roll for the wound is on a "1", but that's what I read as well.
And everyone thought the roll for who got turn one was the most important...

Keep in mind, these files are of the missions AS THEY APPEARED at the Primer. There is plenty of past history indicating that the "real" missions at Adepticon have major substantive differences than the same mission from the primer. Which is why they have the primers.
The primer missions are posted because I think it lessened the "perceived advantage" some players may thing others have by attending a primer. All the players have same access to the missions that were played.
Just personal thoughts.

Actually, in the first scenario it doesn't say that the player who rolls the lower number for quarters sets up in the opposite quarter....just not within 18" of the enemy or 6" of the center. Doesn't say you can't pick an adjacent quarter, for example...

A fairly obvious oversight that I assume they will correct. However, starting in the volatile area would really suck...a lot. Paticularly for horde armies (I move my 30 man boyz squad...let me roll 30 dice here). Seems like this one falls directly into the "not fun" catagory.
The second mission "Fight the Blaze" sounds like a lot of fun. Actualy being rewarded for pushing forward while still maintaining control of your back field should keep things rather interesting and provide for some fun games for balanced armies.

There are no guidelines for the lower-scoring player chosing their deployment zone, as you point out- but aren't deployment zones diametrically opposite in every case unless stated otherwise? I've got no BGB here to check the basic scenario deployment rules out, tho- so anyone got info on that?
Being bunched up on the very edge of a single deployment zone would suck, but not as badly as losing 1/6th of your forces every turn.
Brutal!

The volatile quarter is a double edged sword. It would be really good for a static defending force to just hang out in it, as your opponent is bound to take more losses trying to chase you out than you will just sitting in it. With it being worth 2 quarters alone, it's certainly going to be fought over.

I caught that one too when I read it a couple of days ago.
If someone wins the dice roll to choose table quarters, and has the option of putting someone in the unstable terrain quarter they are screwed.

Not exactly if you are playing something a static gunline army that part of the board might just be a blessing for you to deploy in Especially against an assault heavy list such as Mech Eldar or Stealer Shock.

Yeah, if you don't move it's fine to be in the dangerous, and the quarter is worth double. Some armies would be alright with deploying there, got to be a pain to get them out.
|
All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).
