I wonder a bit since Apocalypse nearly everyone seems scratch building like hell. Well Orc players always scrtach build and will for the end of time but I see Lemon Russ Tanks and Titans spawning from everywhere. So is the Apocalypse rule book responsible for the tide of scratch builds or were they always there and no one made fotos of them?

Not many people had Titans for 40k when i was first playing , but the large amount of titans seem to be not because of Apocalyse so much but because of people like Lackofbettername and JSVIRonfurnace and their amazing templates.
I use to just scratch build tanks, but now thanks to them i have a warhound Titan and have just started a Reaver Titan. I have plans to make a warhound in the near future just as soon as i get the scale right.

Apocalypse allows us to build crazy stuff and field things that models to not exist for. Conversion and scratch-building are encourgaed, which is good. I like the direction GW has gone recently, barring the bitz order shutdown (and I at least understand why that happened) where the box kits offer the ability to make units quickly and easily, but contain enough parts to quickly build up a superb bitz box. Then, gametypes like Apocalypse and the markers for strategic elements in Cities of Death, as well as the robustness of the new kits (as my friend said when he opened the new Trukk kit "Exactly how many trucks are in this box?"), conversion seems increasingly encouraged in the way it should be, where conversion isn't nessesary to play the game, but can make the enjoyment of the hobby greater. That seems to be the right way to do it.

I think Apocalypse did make for a good forum for wacky stuff. Personally, while I have been aware of VDR for a while, I never really used it since I have issues creating things that are not "Bigger, stronger, faster, better!!!1" and it just didn't seem right to me to say "Yea, so I am going to drop my 500 point demi-titan into this 1500 game, k?"
Then Apoc hit, and suddenly there was precident for loading stuff up. For me personally, it meant there was a reasonable forum for dreaming something up, building it, and using it in a game without needing my friends to humor me and my silly, non-codex contraption.
In other words, Apoc took it from a few people who were big enough nutters to make random crap to being more generally accepted. Out of the closet, and into the streets, as it were.
