I looked into a friend's chaos codex and I can se something terrify, he have a battle cannon with ordenance 1/large blast, and my guard codex states the battle cannon is ordenance 1/blast.

My friend then claims that my leman russ should fire using the small template because their battle cannon isn't large blast.

Is this a typo? they are a FAQ or a reprint that fix this? or my ordenance weapons are all small templates?

Thanks for your answers.

The guard codex is from 3rd edition where Ordinance 1/blast meant the big blast. The new chaos codex is done with 4th edition in mind. Your a victim of an outdated codex.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

If I read RAW, it seems...

Well... actually the guard codex may have been released in 3rd however it was suposed to be the first completelly 4th edition compatable codex written and tested with the 4th edition rules.

As for wich template to use, you should use the large blast, I am actually not sure if it is a typo or like thehod claims a relic of 3rd but I am sure that if you check the GW official FAQ then this has been answered (its been round long enough... but then again they probably wiped that FAQ at some point).

In short GW rulings are void!

On the GW FAQ they are no word about this. Is pretty silly than the same weapon has different template sizes depending on where is mounted...

It's a large blast marker. When it was written, Ordnance automatically meant large blast.

As it is currently written, ordnance means large blast. It's right in the weapon type description on page 29 of the BGB.

"Designate the target and place the large Blast marker over it with the following restrictions . . ."

They were even kind enough to use the battle cannon as the example weapon in the description, giving it the following stats:

Battle Cannon: Range: 72", S8, AP3, Ordnance1; Large Blast

Also, the Battlecannon's stats were revised in the Wargear Book to the 4th edition wording.

Yak, the monolith particle whip uses the same wording in the necron codex. Did they get an update in the wargear book?

Semi-true. The Guard codex was designed against an alpha-version of the 4th edition, but a few changes were made and full testing was not completed before the codex was released. A few additional changes were made in the beta-version, then revises upon release. Or something to that order. Man that doesn't feel like a long time ago...

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."
