Ok, before anyone starts in with the "Iron Warriors are as dead as Biel Tan eldar" I do realize that....

I dont have any desire to get back to the Basilisk, or the 4 Heavy Support choices (though they did make for a great theme heavy army).

Ok, so what I DO have a desire to do is get some use out of this pile of figures I have WITHOUT repainting any of them, heh....
I currently have.....

1 Terminator Sorc.
1 winged Daemon Prince

5 Terminators (hvy flamer or reaper autocannon)

27 bolter armed marines
3 Plasmaguns
2 Flamer
2 Meltaguns
8 Lascannons
3 Missle Launchers
1 AutoCannon
2 Hvy Bolters

1 Defiler
6 Obliterators

Also available: 2x Pred Destructors, 1x Vindicator, 18x Thousand Sons, 10 (or so) Khorne Berzerkers, 2x Rhinos.

Id like to make this list back into something as great as it used to be, though not the same obviously.....

Anyone who wants to contribute any list ideas, Id like to shoot for 750pts., which I realize is pretty straight forward, but Id also be looking for expansion-based ideas to jump and help keep the army themed appropriately. I love the Legions....I dont like the way they describe the chaos marines in the new codex as rogues and pirates basically....a buncha halfwit goon evil-doers, rather than the incredible powers that were the fallen Legions. They're better than just a buncha two-bit bad guys, and GW took that theme away from them. The Horus Heresy novels really got it right!

I got a little carried away....

Thanks!!

I play Iron Warriors with the following list. I think it's sticks to the theme pretty well. I know the 2xDCCW dread is a bit out of character but I have the Forgeworld one, it cost me a pretty penny and damnit I'm gonna use it!

HQ:

Daemon Prince
- Wings
- Purtorabo's Gift (counts as: Mark of Nurgle)
- Warptime

ELITES:

Dreadnought
- DCCW x2
- Extra Armor
- Heavy Flamer

Terminators
- Terminators x5
- Heavy Flamer
- Combi-weapon x2 (plasma)
- Chainfist
- Lightning claws x2
- Asp. Champions x2
- Icon of Chaos Glory
Land Raider
- Extra Armor
- Pintle-mounted Combibolter

TROOPS:

Chaos Marines
- Marines x10
- Plasmagun x2
- Icon of Chaos Glory

Chaos Marines
- Marines x10
- Meltagun
- Flamer
- Icon of Chaos Glory

Chaos Marines
- Marines x10
- Meltagun
- Flamer
- Icon of Chaos Glory

HEAVY SUPPORT:

Obliterator Cult
- Obliterators x2

Obliterator Cult
- Obliterators x2

Vindicator
- Daemonic Possession

Total: 1750

The core of it can be a bit slow, but the way I play the termies and DP go after stuff that needs to be cut down quickly and the troops just take their time getting to objectives. Now granted I don't get to play a ton of tournaments but I'd like to think the people at my LFGS run pretty competitive lists and I've done pretty good (mostly wins with a few draws and close defeats).

I appreciate the response Kymera!
I was hoping out of 61 views there'd be a little better response....the army list cant be THAT fargone....
I realize it's been hit hard, with the lack of extra heavies and no basilisks available, but there must be someway to keep it true to its "roots" as opposed to this ghetto-pirate crap they're pulling on us now.

Thanks!

Well actually, no. It's apparent to most people the IW are dead.

If you really really really want to make a IW gunline army, you can but this is not the way to do it.

Just too many nerfs on Chaos to really do it the way you are trying to.

If you really just have to have a IW theme, well next post will be how.

Remember if you insist on the IW theme and insist on including vehicles, you'll make a POS army that must win first turn to do any damage before the vehicles get wiped out. Since you don't have alot of vehicles, you can't do 3 dreads and 3 vindis.

Which leaves you with the choice:

Do I want crappy chaos warriors that run away, do I want oblits, and what kind of HQ do I want to have since you aren't making a typical army.

Here's how you make a chaos gunline army that can hold it's own against alot of armies:

1750 Pts - Chaos Marines Roster - IW

1 Fabius Bile @ 160 Pts

4x10 Chaos Space Marines @ 210 Pts
Meltagun (x1); Lascannon; Enhanced Warriors

3x2 Obliterators @ 150 Pts

Total Roster Cost: 1450

You can swap in plasmaguns for the meltaguns if you like.

Without Fabius Bile, you have to run Cult Troops and that means no heavy weapons (other than a blastmaster) which while a fine weapon the EC troops don't really fall under the IW sway.

Fabius Bile is not a EC commander anymore, he's just a Chaos Undivided commander (really always has been).

It's the best way to get a shooty lascannon chaos army that doesn't piss itself and run when anything comes near.

Since they are always S5, you can crunch most enemies with just lots of CC attacks.

I didn't add powerfist champions but you can play with it and add them, lots of room.

It isn't much, but 10 lascannons really is not bad. Hide the oblits against things like preds and let the line squads kill them. Then move out and start putting plasma cannon shots out. If you bring the fist champions (you should) you have S9 powerfists...at all times.

Anyway if I wanted a IW list that didn't have the crap and was solid, I'd bring this. At higher points values I'd make sure I had 4 line squads with a PF and toss in that demon prince with wings. He'd just be a target/distraction, but so what? They're good at that.
