I finally had a chance to read through a lot of the comments on the Ork Tactica, and now you all have me wondering. I have a 2000pt Ork Army which includes a Biker Boss and a Big Mek with SAG. My mobility comes from my 1 Trukk,6 Biker Nobs, and 2 squads of 16 Storm Boyz. The other chunk of my force comes in the way of x2 squads of 20 Shoota Boyz, 15 Lootas, and a Deff Dred.

I was intending to keep my SAG Mek close to my Lootas and use him as a anti armor/big monster sniper type role. Am I using him all wrong, and should maybe think about putting a Big KFF Mek with my Shootas and Dred?

This is my first time with Orks, so please excuse any obvious mistakes i may be making here!

A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

I would probably test the list and see what you need.

Your most expensive/fragile unit in the backfield is your Lootas, so if you do use a KFF, you want to make sure he's helping them as well.

The main thing you want to examine, though, is whether it's more important to the performance of your army for those units in the backfield to be a bit more durable, or for your army to have the threat of a 5" AP2 pie plate shot. This kind of weapon often has a significant effect on the way your opponent deploys and moves his army just because of the threat factor.

If you had a really big firebase on the back (2-3 Loota squads plus other stuff), or were using the KFF to shield several big squads of footslogging boys going up the middle, I'd say the reliable increase in durability for your boys would be almost a no-brainer. But for your particular force, I don't think it has as much utility.

I would stick with the SAG for your Mek.

The KFF really shines when you are playing pretty much a pure horde army that is marching up the table where the KFF can protect half your army.

As your army stands, your opponent isn't going to focus on firing at anything in the backfield until the speed force is eliminated, that means the Dread, Shootas, Lootas don't really need that much protection because most of the attention is going to be going towards the Bikers, Trukk and Stormboyz.

Therefore, adding more firepower to your backfield in the form of the SAG is a great idea.

But remember: using the SAG on a vehicle should only be a secondary target. You should always be aiming for big expensive units of well armored models (like MEQs) as against such targets even a poor-ish strength roll won't be that bad as the AP2 will still be your trump card.

The SAG can definitely hurt vehicles, but your are much more dependent on a good strength roll and any scatter that takes the center hole off your target means you'll be hard pressed to damage the vehicle.

Monstrous Creatures should never really be a target with your SAG unless you really don't have any other alternatives as you'll be hard pressed to cover many big-based models with the ordnance marker and most MCs are immune to Instant Death (which means you'll really need to be praying for that roll of '12' for Strength).

Agreed. The KFF really shines in a horde list that already has AP2 such as a 9 Kan list.

Dual SAG can be useful in a horde list too actually as both Meks can clear fire lanes as your army advances.
