3 ven dreads, 3 regular dreads, 8 deathwind drop pods, 2 plasmadeath marine units.

Commander has combi-plasma, squad has plasma, sarge has combi-plasma. Master craft the combi's and signum the squad plasma. Odds are in your favor for 6 plasma hits from both units, plus the bolters.

Asscannon/heavy flamer death from the dreads and 8 DW templates should make most players cry.

Argh. I knew I forgot something. 1850 Lists. Don't have time to look over in depth right this second, will check back a little later

Alright. Having had a chance too look over them...The first one looks too gimmicky. I tried a list like that, with the many techmarines and servitors. Didn't work so well when they had big weapons fired at them, and they were just too stationary. The second list would be crazy expensive Can we get something inbetween the two? I do own one drop pod, so one drop podding squad is good.

Beware the single 'Drop of doom!!'

With only 1 , you may get frustrated at how long it takes for the to arrive(reserve rolls can bite ya if you don;t have heaps to roll)

And 2, none of the dudes in that Pod are going to collect a pension. They will probably be shot, then charged to pieces. IMHO, anyways.

With the coming of 5th edition I'd be really careful before spending that amount of money (list 2) or painting/converting time (both lists).

I don't think 5th edition is going to be kind to Space Marine players, and especially unkind to non-Ultramarine players.

Viable or no, I really like the themes on both those lists. Good work, Stelek.

If 6-dread armies are out with the new SM codex, another little fragment of 40K's interestingness will have flaked off. Personally I am skeptical that GW will repeat the nerfage of the DA codex for the remainder of Marines, given the crappy sales DA had. As others on this board point out regularly, old viable units will probably bite the dust, but new brokenness is inevitable as well. I'm guessing pods will be part of that new brokenness, since there's supposedly a plastic model waiting in the wings.
