Okay, I'm new to WH40K (well, the board game anyway. I've had plenty of experience with the fluff, etc).

Well, when deciding between Sister of Battle or Orks, I went with the boys. I have purchased, over the last three months, a ton of boyz, lootas, and other such things.

Now, I have them almost all assembled, painted, and ready. I've played 3 games so far, and lost every one of them (quite drastically).

Help.

In terms of just units, I have :

About 80-90 boyz (30 or so are sluggas, the rest are shootas) + 3 Nobz to lead the three groups.
A trukk.
A Killa Kan.
A Lobba (or Zzap gun, I sprayed a spark plug for a car and painted it up for a Zzap gun.)
8 Lootas (+ Mek w/ KMB)
8 Flamers (+ Mek w/ KMB)
3 Bikers
1 Weirdboy
1 Big Mek w/ Shokk Attack Gun

I'm still trying to get an idea of what to do with all this, and how to field it. Also, what else do I need to pick up to make this actually playable?

(The tyranids and the Tau are all I've ever played against; 'nids got into melee with their genestealers, and the tau had crysis suits jumping around in and out of buildings like cowards).

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

stinkin' Tau!

Put the Weirdboy in with the Slugga boyz and make him a warp head. You can probably actually deploy them on a flank, since he can teleport or something like that.

Put the flamers in the trukk. Hide the trukk first turn. Second turn, move it full distance hiding it again. Third turn move, get out, either burninate or assault something. Win.

Burnas and Bikers go attack something. You can use them to hunt something like those genestealers you mentioned. Speaking of which burnas would be a great choice. Nice to see the burna guys getting included.

Killa Kan and Shoota boys march up the middle. You might want to consider 4 groups instead of 3 so you can shoot at seperate targets. You could also consider mostly hiding/ using terrain the Killa Kan since you don't have many vehicles and it will be soaking up alot of anti-tank stuff.

Lootas deploy in a good position and shoot, that's an easy one. Make sure they are in cover.

As for the Shokk attack, I honestly don't know what people do with it. You can put him by himself and hope that IC targetting rules will stop people from shooting him. Very powerful, obviously.

Other than that, that looks like a great army.

One thing to consider with shoota guys is using your fleet move at the beginning when their guns are out of range. But I don't know how successful that tactic has been.

Scratch build six trukks and a pk nob w/ boss pole for each trukk. You should then be able to be fairly competitive. Remember, Boyz like lots of toyz, 3 bikes suck...10 Bikes, rock! One Killa Kan sucks...3 units of 3 Killa Kans, rock! The more the better with Orks.

Okay, so I need more dakka then?

A pair of extra kans, more trukks... hmmm.

Would a battlewagon be a good addition?

Also, a pair of extra Lobbas (w/ a pair of extra Spark-plug-zzapguns)? Would those be good?

Yes and yes, leave the battlewagon home for games under 1800 pnts. Personally I don't like gun batteries but my friend swears by kannons. I like speed and having won best over all at a local tourney recently I know speed kills.

As stated, taking 3 bikes is pretty much a waste of points. Everything counts in large amounts.

Also, Burna Boyz can't take Trukks. Which sucks, because if they could they'd be an extremely competitive unit! Although, from what I hear of 6th ed, it's ok for any unit to use any transport vehicle, which makes things a little more interesting.

Are you serious? That's useless.

Check the codex, friend. Any units that can take trukks have them as a dedicated transport option in their list entry. Burnas and Tankbustas, both of which could really, really use the option, can't take them.

They can, however, ride in a Battlewagon or Looted Wagon - but let's face it, for the Orks a trukk is always going to be the preferred transport option.

Oh, and I'm not psychic - when I said 6th ed I meant 5th. Getting a little ahead of myself.

I kind of like the burnas for defense. My tyranid friend loves infiltrating with genestealers, and the burnas are to hopefully make him think twice about trying it.

They haven't been useful yet, but I'm hoping that someday they'll come through.

Do I need more lootas? Cause I think I need more lootas. Dakka dakka dakka...

I think I'm gonna go buy more lootas.

Lootas do rock hard. Not a dead cert gamewinner, obviously - they're still 6+sv Orks - but the potential firepower is very tasty indeed.

I think a popular move is setting up a firebase with a Big Mek's KFF offering some protection to your shootier mobs.

You have quite a bit of good stuff here. I made a quick 1000 point list to show you a typical Ork core:

Big Mek 35
Shock Attack Gun 60 95 points

Weirdboy 55
Warphead 30 85 points

15 Lootas 225 points

20 Shoota Boyz 120
2 Rokkit launchas 20
Nob 10
Power Klaw 25 175 points

1 more of the same mob 175 points

30 Shoota Boyz 180
3 Rokkit launchas 30
Nob 10
Power Klaw 25 245 points

1000 points

This can put out some damn good shooting while the Boyz can still tear through most troops with the sheer number of attacks they have. Put the Warphead in with the mob of 30 Boyz so that if you deepstrike, you will shoot 57 shots at something, 3 of those being rokkits.

I recommend the lootas highly, so if you buy anything, another box or 3 of them would probably be best.

I also recommend storm boyz, but those should be converted from spare slugga boyz and any rocket bitz you can get your hands on (Model airplanes maybe).
Take these boyz in squads of 20 with a nob.

I also like Kommandos, these can be converted as well: green stuff some bandanas onto some slugga boyz for basic Commandos. Use 2 of your burna boyz with the squad. Make Snickrot by green stuffing some curvy knives onto a nob. I like a mob of 6 Kommandos with 2 burnas and Snickrot, though you can go for the max squad size as well for a real shock to the opponent.

The bikers are fun sometimes, but not very good.

If you want to play with armor, get a lot more armor. The key to most armored lists, and Orks in particular, is to fill up the board so that they don't have enough high strength weapons to take everything down. If you can't do this, don't put a single tank down on the field.

The Zzap gun is pretty cool. Take it in fun games, but make a competitive list first. Taking a list that will lose most of the time, but have spectacular victories when it does win is pretty fun, but it's no fun if you have never won a game. Win one game first, then play whatever the hell you want.
