Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

where is a good place to put it? I was thinking behind a squad of Flash Gits would be a good place. Not in the squad, just behind them.

Hey, I just put mine next to a unit of 15 looters.
Your opp. can't single out an IC unless he is the closest, so you don't always have to put him in behind anyone, sometimes just next to another unit.

Hope that wasn't to obvious of a suggestion, well hope that helps

Flashgits like to move and shoot because they are assulty. Near some lootaz is the usual way to do it, although just anywhere on the back edge of the field should leave his enemies with a closer target almost all the time. the 72" range is rediculous.

The SAG is one of those things that can totally help your army, or can totally kill it. The first game i played with it, the first three turns it shot it was awesome. It was killing SM like crazy. then the on the 4th turn i rolled snake eyes and not only did it kill my mek, but about 9 lootas or so i had near it. effectively taking out around 250 or so of my points with one bad dice roll. The next game i had it was shooting mediocre, not really killing anything, until on a whim i targeted a LR full of termies and rolled double 6, effectively taking out around 500 of his points with one lucky dice roll. A good tip is to keep him at least 6" away from any friendly units.

Sounds orky enough.
IF you space him away from other troops you can minimize any bad effects. If you do take one in your army, just don't expect him to win games for you.
though it is nice when he does.

All out of witty one-liners.

I used the SAG once, and it worked really well!
However, I don't like the sit back and shoot style, I like my boyz to get "stuck-in" so I havn't brought him from that day on.....

I have been using it quite a bit lately, and really am enjoying it. I have had some mishaps (like getting zzapped into Close Combat with a full tactical squad of space marines) but when I have had him positioned in the middle of the board next to a unit of lootas, it usually tears up my opponents.

Maybe equip him with a burna for those times when he misfires into combat with a target unit?

If you're looking to add him to part of a static firebase he works well with Lootas sitting back far away in cover somewhere.

Of course you want him a few inches away from the Lootas if you do roll the wrong set of doubles, and never actually attached to them, just making sure that he's not the closest target and thus can't be shot at.

i couldn't have said it better. Another thing the SAG does really well is scare people and they overestimate it. that 1/36 chance of it vaporizing something in your opponents army really scares them. I've seen people spend massive points to try and knock him out. a good example of this is in one game i played against space marines he deep striked a squad of termies to take him out. What that did was effectively take them out of the battle because the SAG was so far in the back that they pretty much didn't do anything else for the rest of the game. Peoples fear of the randomness the SAG brings to your army is something you can use against them.

By some odd twist of fate when you are up against a SAG it won't do anything much as long as you don't ignore it. When you eventually decide it is harmless enough to ignore it ends up wiping out 1/4 of your army.

Never allow yourself to life in fear, for if you do, you are not truly alive.

One thing worth noting is that even before considering the other possibilities, that 1/36 chance is actually not bad at all against certain targets. Against Falcons, for instance, a 1/36 chance of killing it outright is relatively decent--at least, it would be so if Orks didn't have the perfect anti-Falcon unit already. Likewise when it comes to other ridiculously tough targets like, say, a Fortuned Avatar.

As for tabletop experience, I seem to have the worst luck when facing the SAG. In one game, it boxcared my Falcon full of Harlies the first time it fired (!). The second time it fired, it catapulted the Mek into a squad of Guardians, which he gradually slaughtered (!!) in a cascade of ridiculous rolls and saves before my Avatar made it to him and saw him off. It was really absurd.

The best thing about it is that Orks just don't have anything else to AP marines with, unless you have tank busters with no tank to bust. If your going to have any shootyness at all, then the SAG is a must. I'd only leave it out in a speedfreaks army.

I've had mixed results with it (go figure...).

It's been useful in the majority of games I've taken it, though the last tournament I played in it didn't do much of anything (one game was vs Ravenwing and since everything was in assualt on turn 1, it didn't have LOS to jack).

A KFF might have been more useful, but the threat of it did make my opponents adjust how they moved. summary: it's fun, random and quite orky.

I usually place it near a squad of lootas to ensure that it's not the closest model.

Putting it with a unit of lootas is always good.

What about in the 5th ed ? Boyz in front will block LOS , IC 2" away from other units will be targeted as normal, both will make him useless .

I'd say then that he should be joined to a unit that's going to be focussing fire on infantry, but can take out most tanks if necessary.

Like, oh, lootas.

If you are worried about losing lootas this is a use for your now neglected grots. a mob of 10 can give you a screen which not only won't the enemy not want to waste fire on, but you wont care if it blows them up.

in 5th you can do a funny dance with the run rule to open then close fire lanes.

The SAG is a great take-all-comers gun because of the good AP and ordtemplate. The problem is that it is unreliable and most important competes with the bike warboss for a slot. The bike warboss is probably one of the best HQs in the game.
