Before I start, I'd like to mention that I want to keep the army Khorne-oriented, but still make it reasonably effective. Non-Khornate models can be included, but I'd like to limit this as much as possible.

Obviously it won't win tournaments, but I simply want to make it as good as it can get without deviating too much from this premise.

Now, the list.

Daemon Prince (Mark of Tzeentch, Wings, Warp Time) - 175pts
Ok, there's the theme already destroyed It's, uhh...a Khorne DP who is very good at close combat and has a better Daemonic Aura than his fellows? Or should I just suck it up and get a Lash Prince?

10x Chaos Marines (Icon of Khorne, 2x Plasma Guns; Champion w/ power weapon) - 240pts
Rhino (Extra Armour) - 50pts

10x Berzerkers (Champ w/ powerfist) - 250pts
Rhino (Extra Armour) - 50pts

10x Raptors (Icon of Khorne, 2x Melta; Champion w/ powerfist) - 290pts
In v5, these guys may be swapped out for another unit of CSM, simply to increase my scoring units. Alternatively, I could go with some Terminators for the hitting power. Thoughts?

2x Obliterators - 150pts

2x Obliterators - 150pts

Vindicator (Daemonic Possession) - 145pts

Total: 1500pts exactly.

It does when 30 of your 36 models have (well, start with) the Mark of Khorne.

I've already read the template, but thanks for the link anyway. There's not a hell of a lot I can do without ditching the whole Khorne idea, it seems...

trouble is khorne isnt really fast enough, bar the raptors. against serious opponents your berzerkers will get shot by big guns before you can get there, then your CSM will loose combat to anything with higher I or more bodies (eldar, orks, nids), run away and then get cut down. its hard to make an effective khorne army in with the current codex. im not sure if its even possible.

it seems like a khorne list would, with current rules, have to include lash sorcs or dps at the core.

keep the oblits, lose the vindy, lose the rhinos, increase CSM/zerkers squads and slog it. The lash will be a virtual "rhino" in terms of getting into CC that your troops can't be stuck in.

If you run raptors, see if you can't bump up the size. IMO raptors are pretty hideous when there are 14-20 models in the group. with lash, they stand a good chance of getting into hth first turn. (12" move + 6" charge + 2-12" lash = 20" - 30" charge). You'll be dedicating a large amount of points to them, but they're quick and should be difficult to dislodge before they get to do some damage.

I think he meant that you can add the range of lashing someone closer to you as part of your "effective" charge range.

As far as the list goes, I would definetely take 2 Demon Princes. There is really no reason not to, they are cheap and awesome. Shame on you for MoT'ing him!

For your marine squad, I would rather turn them into 'zerkers with plasma pistols rather than have them be regular old marines. They become fearless and they'll be able to shoot and charge.

I can speak from experience and say that Khorne gets gunned down. However I do believe it is possible to make them effective. I am currently building an army that mostly all CC khorne stuff. I think I might be able to make it work better with Raptors to tie up units and then use Personal Icon to bring in terminators, and throw in a transport or two to try and sneak in Kharn the Betrayer. But anyway, I do think its possible to make Khorne work, it is just going to be very hard.

Another interesting idea would be to load 3 10 man 'zerker squads into land raiders, and follow them up with 2 flying demon princes.

DP - Khorne, Wings (140)

8 Zerkers, Champ with Fist (208) x 3

Land Raider, Possessed (240) x 3
