The plan is basic, first turn, build up the skeleton units, second turn, the vampire lord and mannfred charge one unit, and the two vargulfs charge another one, hopefully causing both units to flee and get ran down, while the vampires all summon blocks of zombies. After turn three, it's a fist fight.

Two vargulfs will generally not break a unit. They will hold it forever, but breaking a full +5 combat res is hard.

And can the hero manfred really ride a monster? Wow

Yup, Mannfred the Acolyte is the only hero level character in the VC book able to ride an abyssal terror. And I'm hoping that the two vargulfs, with 10 Str 5 attacks, hitting on 3's, wounding on 3's comes out to 4.44 wounds at -2 to the armor save... so yup, you're right, two won't break a unit.... unless I can book of arkhan one into a position to hit the flank.... or if I can summon a unit of zombies, and then book of arkhan them into a flank.... so there are ways, it's just not gonna be the straight charge that I was thinking of.

This is quite similar to what I was planning on doing.

Angron maybe you might try this instead:

Toss one hero and one vargulf at each unit.

This gives you 4 attacks from the lord + 3 from his mount, followed by the 5 from the vargulf. 9 attacks that hit on 3+, 4 are at -3 and 5 at -2. Then 3 hit on 4+ (or 3+ vs WS3 troops) and are at -2. This will also prevent people from running away from your Vargulfs since they only move 16". The 20" flight should let you autokill anyone tries to run away.

The second unit gets 3 attacks from mannfred, 3 from his mount, and 5 from the vargulf. So 3 at 3+ @ -2, 3 @ 4+ (or 3+ vs WS3) and 5 at 3+ @ -2.

First unit goes into 4+ save troops, and second unit goes into 5+ save troops.

You do know red fury + great weapon is not allowed, right? You also know Great Weapons are only +1 str when mounted, right?

Anyway while Mannfred is really good and I haven't found a way to replace him yet (not sure I will), you might want to swap your Vampire Lord to this combination:

Red Fury, Infinite Hatred, Sword of Might, Walking Death.

Sword of Might gives you +1 Str, is not a great weapon.
Infinite Hatred means you re-roll all your rolls to hit, every round...including those caused by Red Fury.

So you'll be WS7 S6 with re-rolls to hit and all wounds that are unsaved will be more attacks. Most of your attacks should hit, if not all of them. This can generate +8 wounds.

I plan on running a lord with the above, and a vampire on a hellsteed with:

Balefire Lance, Infinite Hatred, Walking Death. Edit: Forgot, the Lance gives you the boom-boom you need vs Treemen.

Again, 3 attacks most of which should hit and as the lance gives me S7 I should be able to wound again.

The lord will go by himself.

The vampire and the 2 vargulfs will go off into a second unit.

Automatically against a full +5 unit, I'm down to +4 because of waking death.

The Lord should be able to generate +7 or +8 by himself, and the abyssal terror should increase that by +1 or +2.
Winning by 4-6 routinely seems like a good deal.

The vampire should get +5 to +6, +0 from his mount, and the vargulfs should get +3 to +5. Again, easy to win with these combos against most units. Even if they do stay, only the vampire really loses any effectiveness but that's acceptable given the Vargulfs standing there with him.

Just some food for thought.

Although I knew that a great weapon is only +1 str when mounted, I was unaware it was not allowed with red fury..... I'll hafta reconsider some things. I didn't have walking death on the lord because I planned on him teaming up with mannfred, and mannfred already has it.... so, for now, I'll take the sword of might from the vampire and give it to the lord, then Mannfred the Black Periapt....

Yeah just remember walking death doesn't stack, that's why I put it on two vampires going different directions...

As far as your own lord is concerned, I think your lord is better than mine in close combat, however I think that the +1 magic level from dark acolyte, as well as the 4+ armor save mine has will help out greatly. And should I ever get the Hand of Dust spell off.... well it would just be amazing

Agreed on yours is a more magic heavy theme.

I plan on running the 4 horseman of death first, then modify it to be more magic based as time goes on. It's cheaper not to have to buy 100 zombies if you aren't planning on doing many zombie spells.

That 4+ doesn't seem fancy to me. S3 will bounce off higher toughness, and bolt throwers/cannons will negate it entirely.

Hand of Dust does seem nice. As I would expect you to get 2 chances per game to get it off, doesn't seem likely that you will.
