my local stores carry both, but these are the 2 main companies. check out their websites and see if theres any local info for you. if all else fails, try ebay.

Most hardware/home improvement stores sell cheap signs, of the "For Sale" or "Beware of Dog" variety. I've used those for a while now as a cheap source of 0.4mm-0.3mm styrene.

This is such the way to go, other than internet purchase, that I'll second it. A good model train shop will have a bunch of different plasticard options- different thicknesses, different surfaces other than plain (diamond plate, tread plate, brick, etc.) and also other handy plastic modeling goodies you didn't even know you needed- tubes and rods, girders, lengths of crisscrossed support beam, etc. all in various sizes.
