Hello, I'm a long time lurker but a new poster so I'm not sure if this is the proper place for this but I thought I'd ask anyways.

I was looking through the rules packet for the upcoming Warhammer 'Ard Boys tournament and noticed a very large issue that had not been addressed by GW, are Dogs of War allowed to be used for the tournament?

At first I thought that obviously no they are not because they are not listed under the "allowed armies" (though Chaos Dwarves are ..). This clearly means that you are not allowed to field a DOW army, but I wonderd what restricted you from hiring a unit. I next noticed the line in the rules saying that "only the main army lists may be used for the army in question. No appendix lists are permitted." Again fully understood, no Errantry war, etc., however again my question was not answerd as DOW are not an appendix list!

While I considerd the can of worms which I had opened also finding a way to allow Kislev contingents I realized that that was a seperate issue entirely. Kislevs act as a second army which is an allied force, therefore unless they were an approved army (which they are not) Kislev seems out as of right now. Furthermore the question of whether or not it was allowed to hire Ogre Kingdoms mercenaries crossed my mind. If DOW mercenary hiring is dissallowed because they are not on the approved list does this mean that OK merceranies are still fair game?

As you can see I am a bit perplexed. I have yet to find the contact for the "local participating trade account" who is supposed to answer questions about the tournament. I am hoping that someone on this forum may have already posed this question, may be a store owner who is running this event with better contacts then I, or is in some way involved with running this event. Barring that some good old fashioned speculation and debate would be helpful.

For those who do not have the rules packet it can be found on the following site.

Thank you in advance.

Upon your suggestion I went to GWUSCommunity.com and signed up for their forums. I must admit I like the fact that this site was created and I applaud its stated goals. However because the event in question was not listed it was impossible for me to post anywhere appropriate due to everywhere being locked! Again I ask for anyone's knowledge or atleast an opinion for or against DOW, DOW Giants, RoR, or OK mercenary hiring for this event.

I was told no here

Dogs of War would make things sort of cookie cutter though Dogs of War cannons for 85 points are just really good.

Sorry about that. I haven't signed up and I just assumed you could ask
about it anywhere. I hope the site is useful to you in the future.

I will be running the 'Ardboyz tournament' in my shops. Because it's sponsored by the Trade Sales team, and I talk to my rep 3 times a week, I've been in a pretty good position to get clarifications on rules questions.

In reguards to DOW:

-The DOW army may not be taken. For players that normally play a DOW army, it may be used to proxy an empire list. Use your DOW models, explain what they are standins for in your Empire army list. Use only rules from the Empire army book. Make notations on your army sheet about the models used. (Voland's Venators are the 10 strong unit of White Wolf inner circle with full command, etc.) This is an exception to the WYSIWYG rule.

-DOW choices may be taken from units that are described as DOW, and are from army lists legal for this tournament. (Meaning Ogre Kingdoms, essentially.)

-Old Regiments of Reknown, or units from the DOW army list may NOT be taken. (No cannons in your Beasts of Chaos army, no dwarf pirates.etc)

-Anything that is from White Dwarf, vs an army book, may not be taken. (No Rhinox Riders.)

-No truthsayer, No Dark emissary.

Thank you Mikhaila for the clarification straight from the reps. While I don't fully understand or agree with GW's stance on the subject I can atleast go forward now better informed. Not allowing things like the terribly undercosted Rhinox Riders make sense to me, however there is not a single choice (other then cannons) in the DoW army list that I feel is undercosted. I do have to say though that while I am sad that I won't be bringing my block of Pikemen I can at least sleep soundly knowing that I won't be facing 5-6 Cannons or Giants in a HE army.

Again thank you to everyone who offered their insights into this questin, now I just have to go find a use for my last 300 pts. Maybe I will take that steam tank after all.

*- And I assume no Fen Beasts either right? (Or do you have to have a Dark Emissary/Truthsayer for those?)
