So i'm thinking of building a blood angels army and would like to paint it a canonical paint scheme, meaning painted exactly how the blood angels would look. In reading the blood angels codex i think i've decided to go with the 5th company. I guess my question is about the squad badges. Are each of the squad badges representative of tactical squads? It seems like maybe 1st and 2nd squad are veterans and 3rd and 4th squad are tac squads, while 5th and 6th are assault. Am i right in thinking this? If I included terminators, assault or devastator squads what squad badge do they wear on their knee if any?

Blood angels use a standard company pattern meaning 6 tac, 2 assault and 2 dev. The Termies and VAS come from the first company. The Death company is also its own seperate formation. Of course... I can't find a chart with the various squad symbols right now.

Just look in either of the blood angel codex (old or new). Squads types are denoted by the color of their helmets. I think (I don't have my codex beside me) that company badges are on the right shoulder pad and it's denoted by the number and color of the blood drops on their right shoulderpad.

yes i know what symbols to put on their shoulder pads what i'm trying to figure out is what symbols go on their knee badges. if i was to use 5th co. the marines would have a black blood drop on their right shoulder pad, but what of the squad badges on their knees? i saw in the BA codex the chart showing the different badges for 1st-10th squads but don't know which badges go to which kind of squad, as well as what knee badges would bikers, termies, scouts and the like use?

1st squad: White skull on black background.
2nd squad: White skull on blue background.
3rd squad: red blood drop on yellow background
4th squad: red blood drop on black background
5th squad: White "X" on black bacground
6th squad: White "X" on blue background
7th squad: Yellow lightning bolt on black
8th squad: Black lightning bolt on yellow background
9th squad: Yellow wing on black
10th squad: Black wing on yellow

The blue looks like Ultramarine blue.
the Red looks like blood red
the yellow looks like badmoon yellow.

guys, guys, your driving me crazy! LOL! I know what the regular tac squads wear on their knee pads, my question is what would terminators, assault, dev, and scout squads wear on their knee pads?

That list I just posted... those are the squad markings. They go on the right knee pads.

Seriously. Go to GW's Blood Angel page and download the codex. Squad markings are on page 27 of the pdf (the summary page) and the squad markings are AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.

Terminators would follow standard codex lines for markings. IE... crux terminatus on the left shoulder, blood angel marking on the right shoulder. Then the squad markings from the pdf, (bottom of page 27) to show which squad.

For battle companies:

-1st - 6th squads are tac squads. (squad appropriate markings on knee, red helmet)
-7th and 8th squads are assault squads. (squad approprate markings on knee, yellow helmet)
-9th and 10th squads are devastator squads. (squad appropriate markings, blue helmet).

Veterans are members of the 1st company, therefore, they would take to the field of battle with a white skull on their right shoulder pad. Pick a squad number (and appropriate markings) for them, as they are NOT actually members of the battle companies.

thank you Kimonararrez i didn't know that squads 1-6 were always the tac squads, and 7 & 8 were always the assault squads. You could see where i was getting exasperated, because i did download the codex and knew which badges went with squad numbers, just didn't know what each squad type was. So thanks for your help!
