This is going in a different direction for me and I am looking for some feedback on the viability of this type of list in a GT setting. I know it is cookie-cutter boring, but it fits the theme I want to try:
No vehicles with an AV.
Use all the composotion slots.
Be as shooty as possible.

Vanilla marines @1750
Master w/ storm bolter & bionics

Scout 2x5 w/ misslie launcher, bolters

Tactical 4x5 w/ lascannon, bolters

Veteran 3x5 w/ lascannon, bolters, tank hunters

Devastator 3x8 w/ heavy bolter x4

Attack Bike 3x2 w/ heavy bolter

Lascannons and heavy bolters cover the two spectrums, horde vs. mech.
76 marines give me all that 76 marines give me. Mainly the best basic stat line in the game.
Attack bikes are mobile devastators.
Veteran tankhunters for monoliths, land raiders, etc.

Obvious disadvantages, lack of mobility for objectives and no real HTH, but can the firepower compensate?

I know I am leaving myself open to , but try to resist the urge :S. I know the is there and I already acknowleged the cookie-cutter comments. So please don't give me a on what the GT is for and how you would be to play the list. Even though it is a gimmick and has major weaknesses, chipmunk me on sportsmanship until you play me. Just give me criticism on its effectiveness, thanks.

The attack bikes are questionable, but everything else looks fine to me.

Maybe you want to try a command squad instead of attack bikes.

Fast moving horde armies can be a problem if there is a lot of terrain on the board.
Against small bugs you may have one round of shooting before they hit your front ranks,
and then you need a resistant force to deal with them.

I would look up some of the past GT and see how things played out. Another thing to remember is placement is a key factor and could hamper your list. Also terrian set up could be the nail in the coffin for you as well. With 5th ed coming out and the talk about cover saves for vehicles, this could be a nock towards your lascannon list of doom. Othings things to think about are the dbl lash list.

I would set up an idea on what I wanted and start looking on how it would handle other armies.

I think you get the point now.

Horde of marines is great but you still need some type of counter charge. Somebody thats going to reach out and wack the hell out of what ever just reached your line.

Its a solid list over all, just stop and think about what you might have to do.

While I really do like that list I can see a few short comings especial given the terrain at a large portion of tournaments. That being that you will need to either spread your army out and not have alot of your models in cover. (will work against certain armies) or you will be forced to pile your models on top of each other just to benefit from cover. Its the one issue that an all infantry Marine army has to face. The other problem is the lack of mobility as others have said. In certain objective based missions where you want to get all the points for the mission you will need to have something other than 6 attack bikes running to claim objectives.

Just a few things for you to keep in mind when play testing. If you can get your hands on the Baltimore 40k missions from 2007 those will give you a good indication how the list will play out this year.

I have a chance to playtest this in a 3 game RTT competition @1500 points this weekend. I will be taking out the veterans and giving one of the attack bike squads multi-meltas. We'll see how it goes. I am leaning toward removing the attack bikes to substitute a hth unit. Any suggestions for the 300 points that will not involve the master?

My first thought is a chappy w/ jump pack and assault squad w/ pf.

Assault squad w/2 flamers, PF vet, led by Epistolary w/Might of Heroes (to be cast on the fist vet). Optionally (if you have the points) you could add Fear or Fury. Both are great. Adding the Epistolary uses your second HQ slot (to better fit your goal of filling the force org chart) and gives you the very useful Psychic Hood.

Though the chappy isn't bad if you can't afford the Epistolary.

Good ideas so far. You do need that counter assault unit if your running a static gun line. I would also consider tank hunters on your heavy bolters for all the skimmer armies that are flourishing as of late. I personally prefer Tornados over attack bikes also.

I have been playing FOC at five men just a few weeks after 3rd ed hit. I had already been building up to it but it was not until I dropped my termies that I went full FOC. FOC tactics have a lot of strong points of which you can easily out play anybody on the field. Vets with your lascannon are key of which you might want to change around your tactical sqauds to make them more of a moving unit with plasma guns. The main reason for this is that as set up goes, you will be able to line up your tank hunters because there heavies are already on the board. Even then you will still have set up over the other person because of how many units you have to place to get to your tank hunters.

Normally I will have

3x vet squads-lascannon-tank hunters

2xtactical squads-missle launcher
4xtactical squads plasma guns

I tend to change the troops around thou as I have a total of four lascannons and sometimes will change out a missle for a las.

I would just look at your over all placement for your FOC.
