Reading all the rumors, and looking at weapons ranges etc....I thought "Storm guardians in a Wave Serpent".

However, I can't find out either on the forum or on GW website what a "fusion gun" is....but two Storm guardians can upgrade to one.

Flamer - that is easy. Fusion gun?

KILL! MAIM! BURN! KILL! MAIM! BURN! I... I mean... For the Emperor?..

A fusion gun is the hand-held equivalent of the weapons that Fire Dragons use. Awfully handy against MEQs and the rear of the odd tank.

The Ten Commandments of the Space Marine
1. Thou shalt never, ever, ever argue with the Machine Spirit!
2. Thou shalt always remember that the only thing Flamers are sanctioned to cook is Tyranids. Or, lacking these, thine local contingent of Imperial Guardsmen.
3. Thou shalt always stick "Honk if you think i'm Sexy" stickers on the sides of Rhino's carrying Sisters of Battle.
4. Thou shalt, whenever in doubt, hit on the blonde Battle Sister.
5. Thou shalt not slap the most holy of buttocks of thine Sisters the Battle Sisters and utter the blasphemous words "OMG l33t a55!", unless thou wishest to clean the treads of thine Rhino with thine tongue!
6. Thou shallst not use the chainfists of thine holy Terminator brethren as impromptu can openers.
7. Thou may haveth two livers, but thou shallst not therefore drink twice as much.
8. Thou shallst not refer to Sisters of Battle as the Cavalry.
9. Thou shallst on pain of death not paint the heretical words: "Your Farseer is my other ride!" upon thine Rhino!
10. Thou shallst always remember these wise words: Spase Marines are t3h uberz! Hurr!

It's the Eldar version of the meltagun.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Beriothien, rumours of what? The Eldar 'dex is a recent one, so I don't know what rumours you can be talking about. Buy the codex and all your questions will be answered.

They're not worth it. Storm Guardians are an inferior CC choice, and need transport to be useful (except maybe backing up an Avatar).

The fusion guns give you two BS3 melta shots. Those aren't good enough odds to redirect a CC squad (even a crappy one) to tank hunting. Firing them also removes your ability to Fleet that turn.

If you really, really want Storm Guardians, take the flamers instead. They complement their main purpose better, and can't miss. They also help negate cover.

Fusion guns are great... when wielded by Fire Dragons. let the pros hadle them, and the Storm Guard keep to... um, killing gaunts. Or just dying a lot.

Has anyone ever tried stormies in a serpent with two flamers and a destructor warlock? With all the talk of ork hordes in 5th edition (that will probably never materialize) maybe this wouldn't be a terrible choice.

I own the codex copyrighted in 2006. The "rumors" I am referring to are 5th edition rumors.

Why they couldn't put "fusion gun" in the section with eldar weapons - I probably wouldn't have found it for 4-5 more weeks.

Dead Horse, I've tried it. It works all right, but 1) Wave Serpents are fragile as hell, and Orks will have Lootas and 2) 3 Destructlocks are cheaper and deadlier than the Storm squad. Granted, they're just 3 guys instead of 11-12, but used in this role, it hardly matters anyway--neither squad will get to flame twice.

Beriothien, which 5th ed rumours have you reassessing Storm Guardians? I have not been keeping up.

The fusion gun is right there on page 68, along with all the other weapon profiles. It's also in the Fire Dragon entry on page 32, which I assume you must have read at some point.

I imagine he's thinking of Troops being the only scoring units.

I think Wave Serpents can be quite decent in large numbers, in concert with Falcons/Fire Prisms. Lootas are certainly a problem, but everything counts in large amounts.

Back when you could take a five man squad of Storm Guardians and still get two Fusion Guns or Flamers, they were a steal. Now they're tougher to justify when you compare with jetbikes and Dire Avengers.

Yeah- miss my shake n' bake squads of 6 Stormies with 2x flamers and a Destructor Warlock popping out of a Falcon. Killed many a hormagaunt, they did.

Does anyone here really think 3 Warlocks with Destructor is a decent replacement for this unit? I mean, I guess they can be decent tank hunters too... But I just always prefer Dragons or Harlies to ride in my Falcons. I wonder if I've been wrong, and am missing good anti-horde power. Thoughts, anyone who has used them, especially t-C?

I have used them, but only for fun. They're cheap enough and pretty killy. The big problem I have with them is simply that in an all-comers list, you deny yourself one Harlie/FD squad (since you have one fewer Falcon available). Since I draw the line at two Falcons, this leaves me with just one clown/snakes in plane squad, and that just doesn't cut it. I'd rather use the 3 jetbike + Destructlock squad.

After beating the hell out of several regular opponents for too long with double Dragons/Harlies, I'm trying not to use that combo- so the opportunity cost of trying this out won't be that great. I think I'll try it against orks soon. They tend to grab my bike squads and do bad things to them all too easily...
