if I put it farther down the page (away from the header) it still does the box thing.

It's a wiki thing, but if you have a space as the first thing on a line, it converts it to a 'nowiki' text box.


So in your case, remove the space before the dash and it will be fine. So it should look like this:

(no space here)– Sun Tzu, Ancient Terra

instead of this:

(space here) – Sun Tzu, Ancient Terra
