The guys who did this are amongst the best tourney players in Australasia, and have done it whilst waiting for Direwolf and GW (Ha Ha!) FAQs.

Is there a tournament ruling that does allow it? Do we know what the US GT ruling is yet?

- Salvage

EDIT -- Quick jump over to the Colonial GT board and it looks like they're ruling it out too, BUT there are many players who are going to let their opponents cast into combat all the same.

From the YMDC thread, the CAN GT does.

Kudos to them for acting. I'll be curious to hear how well it is accepted.

Good of them to sit down and have a rational conversation regarding the many vagueries of that book.

I still think you can invoke into combat, since they went through the effort to explain how it interacts with charging. *sigh* Come on GW, you can't leave us hanging like that!

I've never been clear on this - wouldn't the wording apply if the VC player did the following:
1) Invoke to raise some bodies; and
2) Van Hel's the unit into combat?

Hence, the words have meaning without requiring that Invocation can be cast into combat.

If you Invoke then Vanhels, you are charging after the guys are already raised so your good. The issue is that if you charge, let's say with 4 Black Knights in the movement phase and then raise 2 more in the magic phase, those extra guys don't get the lance bonus. If you raise then charge, you are in the clear.

They have copped a lot of flack over the rulings but to be honest I think you could reverse the rulings and get just as much noise generated by people whinging.

At least all tourneys that use the rulings in the interim are consistent and the organiser can't be blamed/VC players whine when not getting their way.

This way everyone is working from the same rules interpretation.

If only the whiners (The Warhammer Forums especially) would pull their fingers out and do something like this, but no they want to wait for GW.

Also this is the most mature response I've seen on a forum yet. Nice to see the fan bois aren't whining here.

Remember its a FAQ for use in tourneys in Oz and NZ to help tourney organisers.

Not to reignite that debate, but the confusion comes from the fact that the spell states:

"Models that are ressurected within a unit that has charged (emphasis mine) that turn do not gain charge bonuses in the following close combat phase."

Thus it gives an example of casting Invocation upon a unit that has charged and is now in base-to-base contact with the enemy.

Yeah, I think it is good that they adopted something as a standard and their responses seem well reasoned. Even if I did not like the line they took on barding or IoN, I would appreciate knowing how it will be played. Much better than pages of Internet debate....

Meh, I'm still of the opinion that by RAW only a vampire inside the unit can target its unit in combat with IoN. it is a nice compromise and explains the examlpe.

Well, apparently this FAQ has now been changed so that IoN can be cast into combat. This is due to an email exchange between Jeff Carroll of Podhammer and the design team.
