I'm not sure if this is the right section for this, but still.

I play SMs and use bikes, finding them a useful but expensive way to strike at an enemy rapidly.

I fought a chaos player in a tournament recently to discover that their bikes are almost the same cost, but have a pistol and ccw in addition to the bike mounted bolter.

Is there somthing I'm missing or are their bikes simply better than mine?

yes you are right, with current rules the CSM bikes are much better than yours are

Raptors are better for getting stuck in close combat, and Loyalists have access to Land Speeders and Attack Bikes which better support the bike role of mobile firepower.

SMs know no fear. CSM run like scared little girls.
SMs have access to a whole host of veteran skills. CSM are all green recruits.
SM terminators can have two assault cannons in a 5 man squad. CSM terminators get 1 autocannon.

CSM get Daemon Princes. SMs get Masters, Chaplains and Librarians, who with the possible exception of the Librarian are best used to wrap fish in.
CSM get Bikes with CCW and BP. SMs get weird little guys on bikes who don't like swinging big weapons.
CSM get psychers who don't take PotW tests. SM Librarians get eaten regularly by Daemons that are walkover for IG. Tigurius can get killed killing you...

as mentioned, you know no fear. You can also take a Heavy Weapon.

Bikes are good for characters, give them the T5 and turbo boost.

Man for man SM may have more options and be immune to the "pigtailed girl syndrome" but your regular CSM HQ choices are more than a match for their SM counterparts. More. Way more in fact. In fact, your regular Daemon Prince is meaner than a peeved mother-in law.

Two Daemons, you're the only person here talking about HQs. The OP, for one, plainly was not. Maybe you should start a new thread if you want to discuss that.

I am wondering if the new SM codex with have bikes with 2 CCW. It seemed wierd to me too that they would carry bolters only since bikes would seem to fullfil one of two cavalry functions: lancers or dragoons.
Now, attack bikes fullfil the dragoon function passably with the heavy weapons, but really bikes in general need more firepower to be worth it as a mobile firebase.
As lancers, the SM bikes have issues due to their low number of attacks, severly limiting the shock they can deliver upon arriving at melee. Even with T5 it seems they would get overwhelmed by most other units. Of course, a highly mobile power fist is never remiss...

Btw, just to feed the troll @ Two Daemons: All 3 statements of yours are in fact simply wrong. As simple as that, in both syntax and semantics.
Maybe you are talking abt. 3rd ed Chaos Dex. In this case I'd agree, but then again most regular and serious gamers don't have the liberty to take any given outdated codex to work with because it was t3h uberz back in the time...

@ topic: With tacobake here. Assault marines or raptors are the better hth choice in their respective codices anyway, and as a gun platform those ATSKNF attack bikes serve better. It's no good to pay like 100 pts for about the hitting power of 3 Marines, no matter the bp/ccw.
